For what it's worth, I have communicated via email with Dan. I suggested that he, at the very least, go through Lemmie's thread and make sure that anything he failed to attribute was corrected and documented. He said that was a good idea, and is in the process of doing that. He did reiterate that the incidents mentioned were unintentional, and due to poor note-taking on his part. He also said that he had absolutely no problem attributing the authors. As Tom noted in an earlier post, you can see that he is in the process of doing that, and has already gone through and corrected some of those errors. Since the holidays just ended, and I'm assuming he has a full teaching schedule, I think we need to give the man an opportunity to correct this, which, I think that at this point, is the best he can do. I'm sure that most here would prefer to have BYU fire him flat-out.
However, considering some of the other cases of plagiarism by professors that have been cited, it sounds like at least one professor accused is still teaching there.
ETA-I think it is also worth noting that even in the incident that DrW talked about, regarding the plagiarizer that his company finally fired, his company worked with the man for years before actually letting him go.
