Curious how you folks here will react to this...

Who is more likely to tell the president of the US the truth in regards to Russian meddling, Us intelligence or Putin? Has Putin provided any evidence or has it just been rigorous denials of involvement? Did Putin not at one time also rigorously deny invading Crimea?

Give Putin time to provide the evidence. Keep in mind that Trump wants to work with Putin's people to get to the bottom of this. He thinks that is an awesome idea. Give Putin and his men a few weeks and I am confident they will provide the evidence Trump needs to show that Russia is completely innocent and it was all Obama and Hillary.

Interesting, but do you have any insight as to Putin's motivation(s)?
I mean, let us play this scenario out...Putin pulls apart the US and our democracy crumbles - how does Putin suddenly benefit from that? Will the world turn to Russia at that point?

Given the second item above, Trump would be exploring his Dunning-Kruger limits in thinking that he is going to outsmart Putin with flattery.

Unlikely, this is more of a dragging America kickin', screamin', and hair-firin' into the grown up world. The incompetent Instagram-esque global/domestic policy of the last 8 years has to be corrected.

Trump has only managed to look competent so far, and only on domestic issues, because he has had the unwavering support of Republicans in Congress and the Federalist Society eager to work their agenda through him and do his work for him.

Them Supreme Court decisions haven't hurt either....by the way, nobody screaming today about that pending Justice seat appointment, are they?

Though I voted for Trump, I’ve never been a fan of his and I am not one now. But, having taught diplomacy for many years, I would choose the Trump-Putin press conference as an exemplar of how these things should be done. Both spoke with the frankness and specificity of serious business. This performance rates an A+.

There's a pretty wide area in-between repeatedly attacking longtime US allies, calling the EU a foe, threatening NATO, attacking the US media as the enemy of the people, dismissing US intelligence services on foreign soil, criticizing the US itself, endlessly praising Russia's murderous autocratic ruler, repeating that ruler's propaganda to disavow Russia's attacks on the US, and not just "scream at the president of Russia for all his evils." Like, a f-ton of space to operate in.

I thought maybe this was a joke, but nope. Trump is full damage control mode. He's trying to fix this fiasco by lying about it. Typically he digs in and defends the most indefensible behavior. It must be really bad if he's trying to back pedal. It's clear from the context of his comments, and the fact that he put extra emphasis on the word "would" in that sentence, that he did not misspeak. He would be better off owning this rather than digging an even deeper hole by lying about it. Besides, that sentence wasn't the only troubling sentence from that press conference.

Even today when Trump's damage control mode qualifies his "support" for the intelligence agencies when he still says it "could be others" besides Russia... that's effectively NOT trusting our intelligence agencies who've stated emphatically that it wasn't "other."

It was Russia.
