But ultimately this is all subjective. The roots of rock are in blues, music that casts a spell, music that is hypnotic. Hypnotic effect is obtained by repetition, and if you are looking for virtuosity, that repetition can sound like a lack of it. I'm having a hard time describing this, but the closest thing I can come up with is that you listen to blues with a different part of your brain, a different part of musical consciousness.

Bless you! Yes!

Can you address how Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards exchange guitar positions in the same song and how/why Keith uses a 5 string guitar? I'm not musically articulate enough to do so.

I'm not a guitar player (used to play the drums) so I'm not the best person to ask about the 5-string. Keith talked about it in his autobiography, but I honestly don't remember the details.

I'm totally blowing my own smoke here, but with respect to exchanging positions in the same song, I think that is a style that is not unique, but it is a lot more slinky and seductive.

A lot of Rock has duelling guitars, where the instruments seem to be having a conversation back and forth, each voice distinctive. Think of Joe Walsh and Don Henley on Hotel California.

A different style with Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards, or Eric Clapton and Rick Gretsch with Blind Faith, their music makes me think of a double-helix, 2 strands that are a part of the same chain, twirling around one another. Check out the style in Had to Cry Today.

Similar to Woods and Richards, but their work is a little more free form. With Richards though, it is never in service to his own virtuosity, it is always in service to the song.

You think there's a chance Keith Richards won't be alive until May?

I've got news for you: Keith Richards will be around long, long after all of us are dead and gone.

I saw that. I'm sorry, Jersey Girl. Hope Mick gets better soon and they can reschedule.

I'm not disappointed, honor. I feel personally sick over it. For over 5 decades they've been getting on stage and doing their damn job. They don't use electronic trickery, no playback, no nothing. It's always been them, live, raw, and real. Maybe back up singers but who cares.

They are in their 70's now. Ronnie 71, Mick and Keith both 75, and Charlie Watts is 77. McCartney doesn't do what they do. All he does is throw a guitar around his neck, stands there and sings with occasional trips to a piano. Who else does what Jagger does at his age? Maybe Steven Tyler but even he is in his 70's now and I don't know if Aerosmith even tours.

The Stones don't need to tour. I think they do it because they like the interaction with their fans and because they can. And, if they can't do it and if they need to cancel the entire tour, I'm good with it.

I'd rather know that they're all sitting on a beach somewhere or sitting home, traveling for leisure and enjoying life than pushing themselves beyond their limit for fans because “F” us. Charlie Watts is quoted as saying that if the band ends he'd be good with it.

Me too. Because I'm not that greedy.

If it's on, I'm there. If not, I salute them for what they've given us and wish them all well.

I'm also appalled by some of the ageist joke comments I've seen online about this. These are human beings, not things we're talking about.

So I guess you're not going to see the the Rolling Stones 2025 Super Poligrip® Tour?

Hopefully not on the same subject, bad news. Looks like the Tour Dates are being postponed:

According to Rolling Stone, the Rolling Stones have been forced to postpone an upcoming North American tour after Mick Jagger’s doctors advised him to stay home for “medical treatment.” The official word from the band is that Jagger will “make a complete recovery,” but it’s worth noting that nobody has actually said what Jagger’s medical treatment is for—Rolling Stone even says that a representative for the band “declined to elaborate on Jagger’s medical condition.” Jagger also released a statement of his own on social media, apologizing for letting fans down and saying he’ll be “working very hard to be back on stage” as soon as he can.

No, of course not. Keith Richards can't be destroyed by conventional weapons.

Heart valve replacement surgery with stent.

My guess is they'll have to officially cancel at least part of the tour.
