I have never been much of a golf fan, but I enjoy stories of people overcoming and triumphing over adversities. It is possible to admire his athletic accomplishments despite his history of questionable moral character.

The first and only time I played real golf, vs. miniature golf was on the base golf course at Kunsan AB when I was stationed in Korea when I was in the Air Force. I scored 100. It was only a 9 hole golf course, though.

Son, you have some serious mental issues. Matters not who you are trolling. You seem to be be judgement proof on this board. But you also seem to hate life and anything or anyone who do love life. Golf is a great part of father-son life. I can only suspect perhaps not “manly enough” within a father/son relationship of your life. But why spend all your anger here trying to destroy all that the rest of mature males want to remember and/or honor the great years with our fathers or sons.

GET HELP SON!

I play in a best ball tourney every year called the Hack and Smack...last weekend was it's 26th tourney.

I play with my son, my brother and several nephews and old friends. It was really cool this year in that it is now three generations..my nephews son who is around 10, who has been playing in the tourney for the past 4 or 5 years, hit a 5 wood off the tee on a par three and won closest to the pin. Before he hit it I said I would give him 5 bucks if he put it on the green and he focused and made a really good golf shot and put it about 4 feet from the pin. He ran, leaving the golf cart behind, all the way to the hole to see if he beat the previous closest ball, and when he found he was about a foot closer he was dancing on the green like Tiger winning the masters. It was a elevated tee, and it was so cool watching this with his dad, and his grandpa (my brother).

Golf, even if you stink, is such a awesome game.

Do you think that because you don't have to be a great athlete to play it or do you just think it's a dumb game?

Black Moclips wrote:Being a golfer (not a good one) the level these guys play at amazes me. The slightest things jack up my swing. I can't imagine the mental ups and downs Tiger has had to go through to be the best, then crash HARD for years, and then come back.

Absolutely could have written all of this (including the part about not being a good golfer and how my swing is easily jacked up). I do enjoy a round every once in a while, though. I'm usually happy shooting in the mid 90's.

But golf is like sex: it's only as fun as the partners you're with (and of course, accuracy toward the hole is key).

Like many things, it probably has a lot to do with the company one keeps while do it. But with the right people, I'm with you.

TW's odds to win this tourney was 50-to-1. THAT is how everyone assessed his ability to even be competitive, and I agree it's good to see someone fight through massive adversity and come out victorious.

In fairness, golf fields are wide open and nearly everyone's odds to win aren't great. 50/1 is relatively high odds. Winners who win with just as long or longer odds in golf are a matter of routine.

This 538 graph is good for giving a sense of the scale of Wood's career comback:

I'm not a fan of golf. Like anything, I can appreciate high level skill in it, but the sport itself is boring as all get out to me. Golf courses are also environmental disasters, and that doesn't make me feel great about the sport.

LOL...At times I agree

The key is... after the round you focus on the one lucky shot you made and talk yourself into believing you have your swing figured out. And the other key is, never walk, have a cart and a ice chest...although postum is not good on ice.
