Re: 45% of women and it is hard not to care

Post by _EAllusion »
I think it was likely over 50% 25 years ago. Let's assume that only 5% of 17 year olds today are dating a 20 year old guy, would you say that 5% is common?
The paper is NOT LOOKING AT ALL 15-17 YEAR OLDS. It is looking at those who are sexually active. It is not necessarily the case that more sexually active 17 year olds are having sex with 20 year olds than sexually active 15 year olds are having sex with 18 year olds. It's quite possible that more 15 year olds who have sex are having sex with late teens than 17 year olds who have sex are having sex with 20 somethings. Given that a 15/18 sexual relationship can occur between people in the same high school, it's even plausible. You can't just assume otherwise.

Having a sexual partner is not necessarily "dating." This confusion seems to be a theme in your posting in other contexts as well, but it's a completely different claim. Not all 15-17 year olds who had an older sexual partner were dating them.

And no, 5% is not, sans context, "common."

Sexually active 17 year olds might be having sex with 20 somethings at lower rates than sexually active high school sophomores are having sex with high school seniors in a way that weights the data. You don't know. You can't just assume that a number that describes the behavior of 15-17 year olds applies exclusively to 17 year olds.

" 7% a partner who was six or more years older" is definitely much much higher for 17 year olds.

vior is pulling the average up. That's entirely plausible. Sexually active 17 year olds might be having sex with 20 somethings at lower rates than sexually active high school sophomores are having sex with high school seniors in a way that weights the data.
Or high school seniors having sex with high school seniors. You can still be a senior at age 20.

MOST 17 YEAR OLDS ARE SEXUALLY ACTIVE. THERE IS NO BIG DIFFERENCE.

I understand, but I didn't want to use the words "sexual partners". Anyways, my point is that is not very rare, or "more common than you think", especially in the hispanic community and some states.

No, he isn't. He's doing the exact right thing. You're all over the place. He's simply chasing down how you rewrite the script (misinterpret the study and try to make it say what you want it to say, also confusing terminology) and bringing you back on point.

Stick with EA on this.

I think we mostly disagree on the "common" word. That was my main point.

I understand. Here is an average

"Table 13: Average Age of Fathers in Births by Teen Mothers" California, 2002

Age of Teen Mother
17.
18

Average Father's Age (Unwed)
20.
21

Source: California Center for Health Statistics, 2003

http://recapp.etr.org/recapp/index.cfm? ... eTypeID=18

It is more common than you think. I understand the numbers went down, but I don't think it is very rare.
