The rhetoric and actions taken by the President - from continuing to berate the fourth estate by referring to the media as "the enemy of the people"[1]

There is something disingenuous about making this statement but making no clarifying context that the media did indeed flout such divisive rhetorical devices as the President is a puppet of Putin, a literal traitor to his country the equivalent in politics of being called a pedophile extensively, relentlessly for over two years and had no evidence to be publicly making such accusations. That is shameful and a shameful response should be given.mikwut

Travel way back in time, mikwut, to the prehistory of 8 B.T. (before Trump). Our President was born in Kenya, educated on a Madrassa, a secret Muslim, hates white people, gives his wife a terrorist fist bump, wears tan suits, is a disciple of S.D.S. leader Bill Ayers, and plans secret "Death Panels" for Obamacare. Oh, and Ted Nugent was supposed to have been jailed by the President Obama in his second term.

The people and the press ALWAYS say outrageous things about a President. What is DIFFERENT about this President is his denial of access. The "Mainstream Media" is the enemy of the people? That is Trump's rationalization for not making himself available and open the media.

People in the mainstream media have always said things against the President: from Thomas Nast and Utpon Sinclair to Walter Winchell, Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow. The difference of this President is that he retreats into the cocoon of his rallies and 'Chopper Talk'. He treats the press like they are covering the opening of his hotels: if he doesn't like the coverage he cuts off their access. That may be the way it is when you are a real estate promoter who sells more sizzle than steak, but when you are the President of the United States calling the mainstream media the enemy of the people, you are not concerned about the truth, but rather access to information that is not favorable to you.

It becomes more and more apparent over time that some people are absolutely insulated from what's happening in the world.

How can anyone have observed what is out in the open, public record and not concluded that Trump was in some way beholden to Putin? You would have to be insane.

Lots of different media outlets from all over the world paint a fairly consistent picture of reality.

Then you have the American right-wing-crazy-sphere. I swear, they all talk like they're playing an MMO the rest of us only hear about, and expect us all to go along with their fantasy world. In the MMO, Trump is just a poor, poor victim of unfair media treatment, because he's damned awesome, don'cha know?

Not just that Trump's awesome, but everyone who's against Trump is evil (all liberals and socialists). EVIL!!

(But it's not a cult).

What people inside the MMO don't get is that outside the MMO, we can see the live footage of Trump talking. We can see with our own eyes... he's a damned moron. When you sign up for the MMO, you have clearly, willingly, cravenly decided to be conned into believing he's not an incompetent fool. Although none of you would ever want him to actually come near your family, especially your daughters, you claim he's worthy to be America's leader, our chief representative around the world. You've chosen to put all information through a nonsensical Trump is great filter. I suppose you have to, since you're paying the MMO's monthly subscription.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Hi Met,

The difference is criticism is fine, calling him a traitor and under the thumb of Russia is nuts.

Please back this up. I mean, you wouldn't be making this up or anything, right? I watch CNN and MSNBC regularly and I don't ever recall any of their journalists calling the President a traitor, puppet of Putin, etc.

Even though he is very clearly all of those things. The closest thing you're likely going to find is a comment by one of their guests on one of their shows.

By contrast, Obama was called all of these things relentlessly over the course of two terms, not just by FOX News guests, but also their show hosts.

Funny how Obama never called them enemy of the people, but by your logic he probably should have, huh?

He proved himself to be a traitor in Helsinki when he threw US intelligence under the bus and opted to take the word of a ruthless dictator who says "he didn't do it." This is the same guy who excuses Putin's murders when questioned on FOX News why he likes Putin so much although he's a killer. His response? "Killers, lots of killers out there. What? You think we're so innocent?"

He is a traitor in so many ways when he abusing his power to serve no one else but himself. If the media is calling him out for this then they are doing their job and being far more Constitutional and patriotic that all the American Flag wearing trumpers who gladly turn a blind eye to his obvious crimes. And you glossing over the fact that the US President violates the Constitution by calling the media at large the enemy of the people is basically reinforcing that point. You equate the President saying this - causing journalists to work in fear as they're threatened at his rallies - to some random bloggers and magazine writers calling him a Putin puppet or traitor? That's just insane. As is your claim that you'd be criticizing Trumpers equally if you were on a Trump board. This isn't an anti-Trump board, it just happens to have more well educated people participating. However, there are plenty of Trump supporting folks on this board making ridiculous pro-Trump arguments. Feel free to criticize any time.

This is a good time to remind that the Trump campaign, at a bare minimum, imagined it was successfully conspiring with Russian espionage against Americans to swing the 2016 election in its favor while Trump simultaneously did everything in his power to run interference on behalf of Russia to deflect culpability of its attack on American democracy.

Calling this traitorous is "nuts."

One time I wanted to fire an employee. But instead of just firing her, or instructing her immediate supervisor to fire her, I had dinner with two known criminals who even didn't work for the company, and I told them to "take her out." It was all above board.

The more I learn about the defense of Trump by the Republican team, the weaker, more dishonest and more pathetic their case seems, yet the Republican Senators seem to be buying it. I suspect that Trump's team could have recited Mother Goose nursery rhymes as defense against the allegations of Trump's wrongdoing, and most of the Republican Senators would still vote to acquit him.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Trump is the foremost lying President, so it should come as no surprise that his defense consists not only of lies but rather clumsy lies. This, of course, is like a mother's lullaby to a bunch of tired and cranky Republican Senators.
