Re: Impeachment hearings
The Trumpers want to talk about anything and anybody else but Trump and his clearly impeachable offenses. Biden, the Whistleblower, Obama, Hillary Clinton, whatever will deflect attention away from the proceedings and the subject and the evidence already presented.

They’re also claiming all sorts of tortured interpretations of the Constitution that inevitably lead to an absolute dictator seizing power with the support of his party and constituents. It’s perhaps the most bonkers time of my life to watch in real time the literal undermining of our democratic institutions. When they acquit the President it’ll be fascinating to see a Trump who knows he really can shoot someone in broad daylight and get away with it because he’s the President.

Deal.

I'm for having all the witnesses testify that are related to this case. Let's interview Zelinski, Trump, the Bidens, Sholkin, and everyone. Let's see if this is BS or if there is something to this and then convict if there is something to it.

Jesus. It is like you guys have legal precedent for every issue just locked up nice and tidy when the reality is legal precedent is presently being made and set.
Your entire posture here is to look at a clown car of obviously disingenuous, bad arguments, treat them with reverence or echo them, then claim anyone who labels what's happening is being flippant. Playing contrarian as usual, but in defense of an administration literally arguing for a de facto autocracy, is bad enough. The high-minded condescension on top doesn't make this something appealing to engage so much as comment on.
It is alleged the whistleblower had nefarious motives by some Republicans. Rand Paul believes there exists credible evidence that the whistleblower was known to have been discussing taking down the President before the complaint itself.
The whistle blower could be Joe Biden in pair of Groucho Marx glasses and this wouldn't matter one iota. The House's case does not rest on the credibility of the whistle blower's complaint, but rather on the subsequent investigation into what it tipped off and the rather considerable evidence that corroborated and elaborated on that initial tip. I think you know this, yet you persist.

I think the realistic worst case scenario is simply allowing foreign actors (i.e. Russia) to use their already established ability to hack our vulnerable electronic voting systems with poor record keeping to change the vote totals enough to ensure a close victory, then burying any attempts to bring that to light. That's on the table. There's nothing to stop it at this point aside from ambition and foreign willingness.
A little more likely, bordering on probable, is whomever the Democrat nominee facing nuisance investigations from Barr's DoJ to create cloud of negativity in the media coverage around that person. That was already being set up with Biden. There's no reason to think it isn't likely to continue after this affair.

Re: Impeachment hearings
Witnesses would corroborate Trump's guilt, making a vote for acquittal look even more corrupt than otherwise. So a vote against witnesses seems reasonable for those not wanting an extra highlight on their morally corrupt vote.

Go back to school and learn what autocracy means. If we're not already there, we've taken several giant leaps in that direction over the past few years.
Not only because of a corrupt Trump who has a clear contempt for the rule of law, but also because of a complicit citizenry who share your nonchalant attitude that enabled him.
