There's certainly some questionable nepotism, and I wish those in the Obama admin who voiced concerns regarding optics had been takin more seriously. I also see no reason to not take Ryaboshapka and Lutsenko at their word, nor to doubt the myriad of journalistic and watchdog investigations into the conspiracy theories.

I believe that they thought that his name, and the help of his consulting firm, would help the company with their stated goals at the time.
Was it worth upwards of $50K a month? To be honest, I don't really think anyone's job justifies that kind of money.

Dunno. There is a long string of corruption with Israel and Netanyahu, yet we are not only still showering them with money, but rewarding them with geopolitical victories galore.
I understand there are many valid reasons for it, mainly for protecting our interests and national security...but it is really foolish in so many ways in that the money never seems to go where it is suppose to, and just feed corruption.
I have a friend who worked a lot in Iraq during the reconstruction phase. Even hearing it firsthand from someone I have no reason to doubt, it's hard to believe the tales of corruption, incompetence and waste.
