I'm getting the sense, as I have for years now, that Shades doesn't really pay much attention to the people here. We already know he doesn't really engage discussions beyond some random quip. He has his forum and its immutable rules and that's all he needs. How the board members actually feel or think about what's happening to the community here, doesn't appear to matter. We've raised issues for years, he's not interested in making the forum better.
ETA: I think Shades need to ask himself, next time he has a mid-life crisis and he wants people to hear him out to give him meaningful feedback, does he really want to come to the board only to find trolls?

My understanding is that he has a lot on his plate right now, and I am not too burned up about this situation. That said, it is a serious question. We need to think about what kind of environment we want around here—a board empty of any real discussion or interaction that is dominated by meme-dumping morons or what we had before they arrived—a kind of discussion and community that we have enjoyed, warts and all.

He probably does have a lot on his plate now, but he's owned this board for many, many years, and he'd rarely, if ever, participate in discussions beyond calls to demand he address something. I'm with you on this. In the summer of 2019 I had a meltdown over this same thing when subgenius and Doc threw out personal attacks on my wife who was at that time, fighting for her life after being diagnosed with Leukemia. Subgenius ended up leaving (we think) after the forum changed servers, and Doc and I have since made amends in private.

Shades, seriously dude, have you looked at spirit prison lately? it's a rolling assembly line of violations from binger and A-Mike. And deep down you must know that the violations are intentional. You must be able to utilize common sense and see that at his near best, A-Mike's new threads are quick links to material he has no intention of discussing. Do you really think so low of your three moderators that they spend hours a day splitting off rule violations, moving things around, and endless discussion of how to moderate with kids gloves so that posters mostly trolling don't feel unwelcome?
But then, heaven forbid, Philo breaks a universal rule and the red ink must flow for two paragraphs.
