An excellent move. Malicious compliance is the proper response that sane people can demand to insane laws.

This is probably not going to work at the district level, but actions like this will work at the court level since they do expose the double standard.

The Bible is indeed filled with many R rated and even pornographic stories and poems. But it still has literary value so shouldn't be banned. That's also the case with novels like "The Bluest Eye" or stories about LGBT teens. Legally, there is no standard under which it's ok to ban one but not the other, unless it's about graphical illustrations.

A truly uncensored illustrated Bible is not safe for work. Among many others, the story of Lot's daughters having sex with him is not child appropriate.

That seems to be applying the language of the new law correctly, according to state attorneys a few paragraphs down in the article:

Based on the new Utah law, something is indecent if it includes explicit sexual arousal, stimulation, masturbation, intercourse, sodomy or fondling. According to state attorneys, material doesn’t have to be “taken as a whole” in those situations or left on the shelf during a review. If there is a scene involving any of those acts, it should be immediately removed.

Judeo-Christian heritage has a long and storied tradition of using "god" to satisfy sexual impulses and gain power over others.

The issue about the Hebrew Bible and sex is that the oldest books such as Job, Song of Songs, Judges, Chronicles and Kings were not intended to be religious instruction material, just a collection of important tales from Jewish tradition, no different than the work of Homer and his epics. As such, they are filled with pretty bland recitations of human sacrifice, rape, murder, slavery, and genocide with either no moral judgment against them or positive views.

Unfortunately, believers don't know their own history and so they've imbued the texts with sacred overtones that simply were not present in much of it. I find the Hebrew Bible to be very fascinating as ancient literature.
