Chad Daybell -- Guilty on All Counts

Post by Res Ipsa »

The jury found Chad Daybell guilty on all counts, including the murder of his wife, Tammy Daybell, and Lori Vallow/Daybell's two children. The case will now proceed to the death penalty phase, in which the same jury will decide between life in prison without parole and death.

So what happened to the sentencing phase that was supposed to start about an hour after the verdict was read? I'm not seeing anything online.

The judge gave the jury initial instructions about the penalty phase, then recessed for the day. Testimony begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. MDT.

Short penalty phase. Daybell, apparently against advice of counsel, waived his right to present mitigation evidence and his right to address the jury. All the jury heard is victim impact statements. They were heartbreaking,

Maybe he’s ready to leave this mortal probation and receive his eternal reward. If so, I expect he’ll get his wish.
