Wish I lurked for a while before returning.
It's 3am. I've been reading in here for hours upon advice of others. Not found what I'm looking for. Going to sleep now. Wide awake though. But if I don't sleep I'll be feeling awful tomorrow.

Is there something specific that we can do to help, pirate?
If participating is not fulfilling your needs, you can always go back to lurking, and return when you feel more like it.

No.. thanks.
I don't think I mentioned anything about needs needing fulfilling. I felt at 3am that if I had lurked I could develop an understanding of the dynamic of how everyone reacts to each other.

Interesting exercise. I am curious to know what you learned.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”

You can do that while participating too.Imwashingmypirate wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:28 amI felt at 3am that if I had lurked I could develop an understanding of the dynamic of how everyone reacts to each other.
I don't think there's anything special about the way this community interacts. Different personalities in any group will have their own unique dynamics with each other.
Is there a specific question you're looking to answer?

Bolding mine. I think malkie was probably referencing this:Imwashingmypirate wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:28 amNo.. thanks.

I'd be curious to know what you would hope to gain with that extra knowledge from lurking. Personally I was a LONG time lurker, I read here for years before posting. Looking back, I would have told younger Xen to jump in much sooner.
Not sure if it is at all applicable for you but for me, one of the lessons I learned very early on was to stop feeling responsible for how other posters behaved here. The only person I have any agency over is myself, so I work to keep my posts respectful, engaging, and on-topic (not saying I'm actually any good at it, but that is the goal). That mindset change was a big shift in my enjoyment of participation on the board.
