Republicans are completely inept politically when it comes to these things and they're powerless to ever impose a single standard of justice. They've failed at impeaching Biden and everything else. Most uniparty Republicans like Mcconnel haven't even spoken out against this. The left is safe and unencumbered by issues like fairness.
BS! Republicans in recent years have shown themselves quite adept at getting people to vote for clearly unqualified and corrupt liars and conspiracy theorists. They have failed to successfully impeach Biden only because they have been unable to come up with credible, unequivocal proof of high crimes and misdemeanors committed by him, despite desperate efforts to find some. Even some highly respected conservative Republicans have freely admitted that!
On the other hand, Trump clearly tried to extort Ukraine's President Zylinski to dig up or fabricate damaging information concerning Biden, and unquestionably tried to instigate a riot to unlawfully prevent VP Pence fulfilling his constitutional obligation to count the Electoral College vote on Jan 6, 2001. Nor is there any reasonable doubt of Trump's involvement in or, at least approval of, setting up illegitimate Electoral College voters to challenge and overthrow a clearly legitimate election. Nor is there any reasonable doubt that he tried to get Georgia's Secretary of State to find or fabricate votes to overturn the legitimate election. The claim that in 60 some court cases, even those presided over by conservative judges (some of them Trump appointees), refused to even look at any evidence of election fraud is a blatant lie! When Trump's attorneys were asked by the courts to present their credible evidence of election fraud, they readily admitted they had none and backed down, rather than risk being legitimately charged with perjury!
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
It's remarkable to me that anyone believes this conviction is political...
I'm going to actually agree with Ajax and Dr. Exiled on a couple of things. This should never have happened, and it only happened because Trump became a political figure.
It should never have happened because fraud was Trump's business model for decades. He should have been prosecuted and his reputation destroyed years before 2016. But the abuses of power during his presidency caused people to take a closer look at all his misdeeds. Better late than never.
You can thank Cohen for flipping on Turd. Without him, this doesn’t get off the ground.
I agree that he should have been nailed years ago, but Trump being a politician does not make his conviction political. Even if the motivation to indict was political (dubious), the prosecution still had to present evidence and convince a jury. It worked because he's guilty.
The GOP has attempted their own version of political persecution just recently, and the damned dummies are so stupid, they forgot they need evidence, so they failed. Facts actually do make a difference.
I can't help but agree with both the above points. It is a travesty of justice that Trump managed to get away with egregiously fraudulent behavior for so many years until he tried and succeeded in running for President.
It is also incredibly telling and deplorable of the Republicans that they don't think they necessarily need to have real evidence to accuse their political opponents of criminal wrongdoing, while at the same time adamantly denying or excusing even the most incontrovertible evidence of their own members' wrongdoing.
I also think it very probable that Trump's overriding motivation for running for President in the first place was the hope or conviction that as President he could escape indictment and prosecution for years of criminally fraudulent behavior of which he knew he was guilty and was increasingly in danger of finally being indicted for.

Sen. Cruz thinks Judge Juan Marchan won't incarcerate Trump because this would make the sentence subject to immediate appeal which would likely be successful and thwart the Democrat attempts to take Donald Trump off the campaign trail. I thought for sure Trump would be in jail before the Republican convention but this could be why he isn't, not because the NY partisan political judicial system cares a whit about sentencing guidelines for 1st time offenders or the fact that you can violently assault police officers in this district and be released on personal recognizance so long as you're a Democrat.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
Ajax, if you were a juror in a Donald Trump case, would you declare him innocent before reviewing the facts, and hang the jury if necessary, no matter what? Or would you reserve your judgement until reviewing all of the evidence the court brought before you?

The jury had little choice in this case given the judge's instructions and the influence of the attorneys planted within this jury. Oh I'd have listened. But trust me, the Democrat party that controls the government would never allow anyone right of center to serve as a juror in one of these election interference attempts. The judge would surely have banned non leftwing news and literature and I don't do well with being told what I am allowed and not allowed to know before making a judgment.. This was similar to the OJ Simpson case where once they changed the venue to the ghetto, we knew OJ would be acquitted.
I agree with Senator Cruz that retribution and behaving as Democrats is the wrong answer. Vengeance is the Lord's and sadly I fear He's going to allow us to suffer for quite a while before He ultimately sets things right.

I heard a few right-wing podcasters express hope that a fellow Trump supporter would make it through jury selection and hang the jury out of pure devotion to Trump and independent of any evidence.
the Democrat party that controls the government
Don't lose hope. According to Mike Johnson, the third most powerful person in government, he and the right-wing Supreme Court members have talked about this (conspired), and he can assure us that they will do what they can to undo the conviction but it will take some time.

On what basis are they going to appeal the conviction? That the laws against falsifying business documents and fraud somehow violate the U.S. Constitution? They can't credibly argue that Trump actually didn't commit the crimes he was convicted for. The documentary evidence presented by even some of his own associates and employees is too abundant and incontrovertible and was certainly enough to convince the jurors. It would be about as silly as appealing a bank robbery conviction by arguing that laws against bank robbery are an unconstitutional violation of the rights of aspiring bank robbers.

Go down and place barbed wire around the vineyard so the Grapes of Wrath can grow a bumper crop.
The apostle Paul said to count it all as joy. The Lord's burden is easy and His yoke is light. Blessed are ye when men shall speak all manner of evil against you falsely for my name's sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in the kingdom of Heaven. I've chosen war most of my life and it never made me happier. I've learned that in affliction and seeming endless injustice and persecution, my afflictions can be swallowed up in the joy of Christ. My personal salvation is secure. But what about the promised land and the fate of my people? I'll continue to do the best I can. But I fear our fate is sealed. Satan has too much power to stop without the Lord's help.
