Discussion of Trump Platform

Post by Kishkumen »

I am starting this thread to dig into the Trump Platform. I call it the Trump platform because it is his baby, crafted by him and his people behind closed doors, and it was open to no amendments. If you have anything substantive to say about the platform, this is a good place to do it. I will ignore childish trolling and insults.

This article provides some useful background on the platform. It was published before the platform was put together:

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/08/us/p ... tform.html
The primary goal is a “short form” 2024 document that is a pledge of allegiance to former President Donald J. Trump rather than the statement of party values the platform has traditionally been, according to interviews with a dozen platform representatives and other Republicans. Mr. Trump’s top campaign advisers, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, have already stated their intention of producing a “streamlined platform,” with policy specifics kept to a bare minimum.

The platform will likely run to a fraction of the 60 pages Republicans produced in 2016 and is expected to echo Mr. Trump’s “America First” agenda, with calls for heightened border restrictions and tariffs on China. It is expected to condemn the Biden administration for the enduring conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, as well as for the high although declining inflation rate.

On Trump’s personal role in writing it (not a surprise because it sounds a lot like his speeches in many places):
“This is the first platform that I know where our nominee, former President Trump, actually was involved in writing the platform,” Proto explained. “It really reflects his vision and his direction…President Trump actually put pen to paper for a lot of this.”

CNN provides its own commentary on the Trump Platform:

Would you consider having the Democrat platform posted here for comparison or have another thread?

CNN's first comment is ridiculous.
CNN wrote:The idea that the modern United States is leaving people behind is central to Trump’s populist message. His base of support is built on White voters without a college degree.
Whatever. Whatever. CNN can pound sand.

Here is a link to the actual document, without all the subterfuge of CNN/NPR/NYT.

Continuing on...
CNN wrote:This platform criticizes all who came before Trump, and the anti-elitist view is in keeping with the growing fringe claim that an entrenched uniparty has been controlling the country.
It is not fringe. In fact, Biden is now pretending to be anti-elitist and a populist. Check out this comment: "Joe Biden and Joe Scarborough pretending they’re fighting against the elites is the funniest thing to happen in a long time. The most establishment candidate of all time and the show that is the epicenter of the establishment now pretending to be populists fighting the elites." That is from a dude that ran for president - as a democrat. LMAO.
CNN wrote:Voter ID laws will no longer suffice for Republicans. Instead of requiring a driver’s license to vote, they are now pushing proof of citizenship.
Hell YES! Good job, CNN. This will absolutely tip the scales in some counties and districts. Hell yes. Perhaps, putting this in the RNC platform will force the DNC to respond with their plan to let any yahoo drop as many ballots in any dropbox as possible, especially in Atlanta and Phoenix and Philadelphia, etc.

Meh. Trump’s claim to be doing the same is still more ridiculous given that his business is wholly dependent on the dollars of millionaires, foreign interests and the global elite, along with an incredibly long list of government bonds.

This is an interesting list:

Sure! When the 2024 platform is out.

Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

Here's John Oliver's take.
Yeah, on the whole I find Schedule F and Prohect 2025 to be imminent threats. In them lie the tools for building an authoritarian presidency guiding an army of inexperienced sycophants eager to please their leader. It is a recipe for disaster.
