One extreme sentence uttered by a Conservative Republican 9 years ago justifies the current onslaught of violent and eliminationist rhetoric from the right.
Are you living on a different planet?
Different from the imaginary one you live on. Yes.
You posted a meme quoting a single sentence uttered by a conservative Republican nine years ago and represented it as nine years of constant conduct by non-Republicans. That qualifies as having a very loose connection with reality.
he/him we all just have to live through it,
holding each other’s hands.
The Jan 6 shenanigans at the Capitol, while stupid, was was no "threat to our democracy".
What would have happened if the mob had laid hands on members of Congress?
What would have happened if the mob had laid hands on the vice-president?
What would have happened if the vice-president had buckled under the pressure and tried to throw out the electoral votes from the states that Trump and company were disputing?
The Jan 6 shenanigans at the Capitol, while stupid, were no "threat to our democracy".
As for stealing elections, the election system in the USA has a serious auditing problem. And people on the left want to keep it that way. That is a serious "threat to our democracy."
By that standard, the failed attempt to assassinate Trump was no attempted assassination. It failed.
My work is done here.
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”
I remember this kid in high school whose peers regarded him as an awesome arguer. His entire strategy was composed of logical fallacies and the denial of facts. I quickly learned there was no point arguing with him because I knew he was wrong and felt if the audience wasn't smart enough to see it, nothing I could say would make a difference (I wasn't as conversant in debunking those fallacies back then - I just knew his style of argumentation wasn't aimed at finding resolution within the boundaries of the debate). The kids fooled by logical fallacies continued to be fooled. Teenagers are way more concerned with style than substance.
It feels today like every GOP apologist argues like that dumb teenager, thinking they're making really awesome points when in reality, they're putting on a clown show.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

I have to agree with Bill that there is an auditing problem. The problem is amateur, partisan whackos who "audit" for months and months and months trying to find even a smidgen of evidence of fraud and come up empty. Those guys are a real problem.

I, too, agree about the auditing. I should have been less lazy in my quoting. My response was aimed at the first part.

I know. I just couldn't pass up the cheap shot.

And also the chance to agree with bill4long on something is not to be passed up. I mean, if the guy has a point . . . .
