Working class conservatives were always the vast majority of the Republican party's base. There aren't that many Mitt Romneys. That's how democracy is supposed to work, rule by the average working/fighting people, not rule by the few elites.

And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

They remained buried under a rock since WWII until such time that Trump made their return to the surface world possible.

Re: Prediction: Bye, Bye, Biden
This is not true.
Trump is an opportunist. Trump is the symptom. He did not invent populism. Populism was cooking in the country LONG before Trump came on the scene. Trump became the icon of a movement for which he is not the founder. Populism was and remains a massive threat to McConnell/Romney/Schumer and the rest of the Bush/Clinton/CIA war mongering neocons. MAGA is Trump's brand. The populists are rolling with it. Populism is displacing the neocon elite wanks like Romney, Cheney (L and D) and Kinzinger. Make no mistake, saying they hijacked the GOP is a huge compliment. And hearing that from a democrat who pretends they would have voted GOP if only it was a war-lover party still, makes MAGA and the populists happy.
Trump gave the populists a voice and they are returning the favor. Abortion and going to war has been displaced by reducing inflation, and increasing manufacturing and jobs, safe towns and safe borders. It is true, I will grant you, that safe cities are not a priority. Safe towns, yes. Safe suburbs, yes. A safe country and closed borders, yes. Safe cities - that will come with credibility but for now it is a big GFY to 20 the largest cities and maybe the 50 largest. The MAGA crowd isn't concerned about the places they are not welcome. I think that is "deplorably" mutual.

I've been watching some videos where Harris speaks...and surprisingly, delivers. She's aggressive and sharp. I honestly didn't expect that. The above says she's polling head to head with Trump. So...maybe?
I mean, just imagine a former prosecutor debating a felon. Sounds kind of inviting to me.

Lichtman is a propagandist who does not believe his own BS. Nate Silver offered him even odds in $250k wager today. Lichtman knows it would be dead money. She is polling outside the margin of error. She is a drag.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 11:27 pmProfessor Allan Lichtman has a plan.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Yes, the billionaires and their billionaire donors are definitely looking out for you, ajax. ; )
If Trump wins, he’ll feed you just the smallest dose of red meat necessary to keep your loyalty: a feeble attempt at ‘mass deportations’ that will near-immediately run aground on legal and practical obstacles. And while you pick on that bone, believing that your savior has your back, the billionaires will be laughing all the way from their boardrooms to their gilded toilets as they break down and take as much from you and your future as they can stuff into their silk jetted pockets.
Get a backup plan. Good luck.

Most of this you don't believe, not that this is a problem, free speech means you're allowed to say whatever even if it's not true and you don't believe it, but I will go ahead and point out that you don't believe it. What you believe is that it's unfair a college professor can speak his mind rather than defer to a paranoid small business owner.Binger wrote:Trump gave the populists a voice and they are returning the favor. Yes, you believe Trump gave the populists a voice, and that is true. No, you don't believe the tradeoff for going to war and abortion is reducing inflation and increasing manufacturing jobs (Biden is increasing manufacturing jobs with MAGA voting against it, but that does not go along with reducing inflation, independent of who is president). You made your money as a CFA, you don't believe that Trump can lower inflation or that populist ideas lower inflation, and you don't believe Trump is critical to manufacturing jobs. You don't believe Trump will close the borders, but you do believe he'll make the border situation better than it is and pull deportation stunts and lots of over BS that screws certain people over while not fixing anything in general. And no, you don't believe that Trump taking over will create safer towns.
