MAGA Trumpist were always the Republican party majority. They just never had a billionaire to speak and fight for their interests before Trump.
This is not true.

Trump is an opportunist. Trump is the symptom. He did not invent populism. Populism was cooking in the country LONG before Trump came on the scene. Trump became the icon of a movement for which he is not the founder. Populism was and remains a massive threat to McConnell/Romney/Schumer and the rest of the Bush/Clinton/CIA war mongering neocons. MAGA is Trump's brand. The populists are rolling with it. Populism is displacing the neocon elite wanks like Romney, Cheney (L and D) and Kinzinger. Make no mistake, saying they hijacked the GOP is a huge compliment. And hearing that from a democrat who pretends they would have voted GOP if only it was a war-lover party still, makes MAGA and the populists happy.

Trump gave the populists a voice and they are returning the favor. Abortion and going to war has been displaced by reducing inflation, and increasing manufacturing and jobs, safe towns and safe borders. It is true, I will grant you, that safe cities are not a priority. Safe towns, yes. Safe suburbs, yes. A safe country and closed borders, yes. Safe cities - that will come with credibility but for now it is a big GFY to 20 the largest cities and maybe the 50 largest. The MAGA crowd isn't concerned about the places they are not welcome. I think that is "deplorably" mutual.
I think I understand what you're saying. The biggest difference I see was Trump had the idea that this was our country by birthright and we had the right as taxpaying voters to limit who comes in and who is turned away. While Bush also believed there was no virtue in giving away other people's money, he didn't see this as my country anymore than any other citizen of the world. I don't think the neocons fought wars to win. For me our soldiers safety comes before the rights of enemy civilians. Our veterans benefits come before illegal immigrant welfare. Neocons like Bill Cassidy believed the opposite.

For Trump it doesn't matter if you live in a trailer or Mar a Lago, we're both Republicans and the loyalty goes both ways.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Huh, he actually did it.

Edit: I ain’t sweatin’ it, though. People know Trump is a rapist piece of crap, so it’s one of those elections where it doesn’t matter too much who the opposing candidate is. You’re either for democracy or you’re for fascism. This is ideological election more so than a candidate-driven one.

My Fellow Americans,

Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation.

Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We've made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable healthcare to a record number of Americans. We've provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.

I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We've protected and preserved our Democracy. And we've revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision.

For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.

I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.

Excellent. Now if the Democrats can just keep from screwing it all up.

I hope this is the only prediction I am right about, but I think there is a very great chance we will see all of my predictions come true. Sadly.

The internal pressure just became too high it seems. Back when I thought he wouldn't drop out the majority of party leadership seemed okay with him staying in, their shifting position seems to be the final nail. It isn't the time to address it but where the hell was all this discussion back pre-primary when it was the appropriate time to do so?

Like you I hope they can rally behind Harris and start focusing attention where it belongs but I've seen Democrats eat their own far too many times to have high hopes.

Regardless of November results I suspect we'll be talking about this one for a long time. Whether the eventual Democrat who gets the nod wins or loses there is going to be a lot of hindsight thrown around here.

If Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is right, they are well on their way to screwing up everything already. There is no rallying to Harris, according to her. What we see is chaos. And what should one expect from this cat farm? They would have been better off toughing it out until November, waiting to see whether Biden could make it his whole term after his victory. But they flinched.
