LTD Widgets

Post by dantana »

DJT, possibly the most unqualified human on the planet to be sticking his finger in any machines, in an effort to be all - Murica first, bring back jobs/manufacturing - sticks his finger in the machine, by imposing tariffs on Chinese widgets. The idea being that that will raise consumer prices on Chinese products and make better quality, but more expensive American products more competitive.

Junior Busby, not-so-savvy entrepreneur from Flatfoot Idaho decides to go all in on LTD Widgets. He borrows some money, buys some land, builds a shop and hires all the rrrwhite people. (at $40 per hr. since there is no cheap labor avail.) About the time his first widget rolls off the line - a new administration is in place, pulls Don's detached finger from the machine, and removes the widget tariffs.

Bye bye LTD Widgets.

Scenario #2: Sum Yung Guy, Ceo of the Chinese Co. Shanghai Widgets figures out a way to add even more Panda crap to the widget mix thereby making them cheaper to sell down at the strip-mall at ST Rat-bi's. (stuff that resembles actualusable things - but isn't)

Bye bye LTD Widgets.

Scenario #3: Sum Yung Guy, smuggles Ling Ling into Trump tower for Don Jr. to go all safari on. In an unusual coincidence Don Sr. drops tariffs on Chinese widgets that very day.

Bye bye LTD Widgets.

This made me LOL.

All joking aside, if one of the goals of leveling tariffs is to bring jobs and manufacturing back to the states, what firm in it's right mind would take on the risk of trusting Trump? Since putting a plant on the ground from concept to producing product takes years, what guarantees are there for the firm that, Trump won't waffle, or that the next administration will keep his policies in place? I mean, I'd say the chances of the right holding the white house four years from now are slim. Yeah, that's not even a slightly shaky prediction.

I also predict zero forest products firms will break ground, or even fire up a shuttered plant next week when Trump places tariffs on Canadia.

All joking not aside, if anyone is worried about Junior Busby, not to worry. I understand he has segued into a new venture. He has created an app for seeing what it's like to have one's nose up the Don's butt in real time. For Don's part, in lieu of payment for having the camera surgically installed, he gave Junior fifty bucks for fifty percent of the company.

A standard house takes about 160 sheets of OSB. sheathing. It's usually hovers around $14 per sheet. I built a spec house a few years ago during COVID and had to pay $60. Say hello to $60 once again. Yeah, nice time for me to be starting a new house. I'm sure all the geniuses down at Trump headquarters are thinking twelve steps ahead though and have the machine they are f***ing with all balanced and blueprinted.

From the comments -

"Many western states (mine included) have radically curbed softwood harvesting. The mills have long been closed. Trump has no basis to presume that domestic production can be turned on like a switch."
