This is probably true, but I don't think censoriousness is as generally pervasive among Progressives as you seem to be implying, unless you think that honest fact checking is equivalent to censorship. This is apparently what far right MAGA types think of honest fact checking. They obviously regard the constitutional right of free speech as the right to tell any outrageous lies that suit them with complete impunity, without ever having to be subject to truthful feedback. As such, I think they are far more likely to censor truths they don't like than are progressives. I acknowledge that there are extreme leftists who characterize themselves as "progressives" who favor censoring views they don't like, but I think that censoring of contrary, honestly held views is basically antithetical to honest progressivism.

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Seems like you are stretching to make it look like we disagree more than we do. If you really think my position is that fact checking is censorious, I am disappointed.Gunnar wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 1:02 amThis is probably true, but I don't think censoriousness is as generally pervasive among Progressives as you seem to be implying, unless you think that honest fact checking is equivalent to censorship. I didn't really mean to accuse you of equating fact checking with censorship. I know you better than to accuse you of that! But what did you mean by stating or implying that progressives have a tendency towards being too censorious? This may be true of some extreme leftists who bill themselves as progressives, but I don't think that censorship is really compatible with honest and reasonable progressivism. MAGA conservatives are the ones who most obviously equate fact checking with censorship. I would expect and hope that honest progressives know better than that!Kishkumen wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 12:25 pmSeems like you are stretching to make it look like we disagree more than we do. Be assured that I have only the greatest admiration for you!
