So, the Christians who lived in the last times looked to salvation through Christ who would certainly come in the “last times” (last days) which was the era in which *they* lived. So, the last days was nearly 2,000 years ago during the times of the apostles!

Verified:
1 Peter 4:7 wrote:But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
1 Peter 4:17 wrote:For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Of course I am not interested in apologetic links in defending the Christian cult.

Do you know, LittleNipper, I have read the Bible more times than you have fingers and toes?

May I kindly ask, do you expect Jesus to return in your lifetime?

Besides this you know what hour it is, how it is full time now for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed; the night is far gone, the day is upon us. --Roman 13:11-12

The God of peace will very soon crush Satan under your feet. --Romans 16:20

I mean, brothers, the appointed time has grown very short; from now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the form of this world is currently passing away. --1 Cor 7:29-31

Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom --Matthew 16:28, Mark 9:1, Luke 9:27

This generation shall not pass till all these things be done. --Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:30, Luke 21:32

You will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. --Matthew 10:23

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must very soon take place; Rev 1:1

Look, I am coming very soon, bringing my rewards, to repay every one for what he has done. --Rev 22:12

Children, it is the final hour --1 John 2:18

Christians are to always be vigilant. I can only suggest that we seem to be moving closer, at an accelerating rate...

I lean toward a partial preterist view within a telescoped fulfillment of prophecy as a way to understand those verses.

Imagine, if you will, 1st century Christians being told (by angel LittleNipper) that Christ will not return for at least 2,000 years! Do you suppose they would be sorely disappointed and begin to question the letters written to them from the apostles? Do you suppose Peter and Paul would receive your message and include it in their epistles?

St Peter and a small handful of Christians living during his lifetime may have been diligent but their faith was in vain because Christ failed to return according to the teachings of the Church. The early Christians were like JW’s & Mormons in making predictions about Christ coming being very soon because the day of the Lord was at hand. Sounds like a cult!

Three cults:
  • Christians
  • Mormons
  • JW’s

Special thanks to bill4long for his contributions in demonstrating that the day of the Lord was soon at hand and how the cult’s prophecy failed miserably:
  • the day is upon us
  • very soon
  • the appointed time has grown very short
  • some who are standing here will not taste death
  • This generation shall not pass till
  • You will not finish
  • must very soon take place
  • I am coming very soon
  • it is the final hour

That is an apologetic fallback that would not have been well received by the apostles who formed the Christian church and established the beliefs concerning the Second Coming. The JW’s are having to rebrand and walk back their predictions and the Mormons had to do the same after Joseph Smith died and time (latter days) continued ever onward.

May I suggest you simply 86 the cult and move on?

Let's not forget the Millerite movement in the 1830s, that spawned the Seventh Day Adventists; John Darby, who invented the current premillennial dispensational delusion loved by so many evangelicals, made popular by the delusional Scofield Bible; and more recently, all the false prophets who claimed that Jesus was coming in the last forty years, such as Hal Lindsey, Harold Camping, et al.

If there is a Creator, it or its agent(s) may show up one day and rule the planet. But there's no reason to believe any of the biblical apologist clowns are correct about anything, based on their track record and clear denial of what the New Testament writers actually said. And how they mishandle Daniel chapter 9 is a study in apologetic lunacy.
