I understand what Doc posted to mean: I'll keep breaking your rules until you meet my demand. I would not describe that as a "pledge." Neither would I consider it a mitigating factor with respect to the broken rules. During the period when moderation was absent, we all chose how to post and should take responsibility for that choice.

This thread is about whether or not to restore a mod team. Still and all, I'd like to make a suggestion that piggy backs off Gad's offer to take care of the place. If I were asked to make the call this very day, I would suggest Gad and RI work together at least through this interim period until Shades is able to return.

I've explained this to you half a dozen times. I understand why you resent my "Socratic act," because, when I took you step by step through one of your claims, you admitted that you were 100% wrong about why I wanted the board moderated. You couldn't stand the fact that you had to admit that what I wanted from moderation was exactly what Shades described in his clarification: even-handed moderation applied to everyone. Apparently, that was so painful to you that you had to make up a bunch of lies about me to make yourself feel better.

I am 100% against self-help when people break the rules here. It NEVER improves the situation. It ALWAYS makes it worse. The only way to address the problems you describe without turning the board into a wasteland is to have someone with moderator privileges who can enforce the rules. Period. Your demand that I engage in pure virtue signaling that will escalate conflict rather than resolve it is silly. You have no moral or other standing to demand that I run around the board condemning speech that you object to. You cannot shame or bully me into engaging in behavior that will only make the problems here worse.

I don't recall saying that Atlantic Mike is "the troll." I might have slipped, but I try not to label people as "trolls." I see trolling as an activity that lots of people participate in to various degrees. Mike trolls. You troll. Canpakes trolls. Doc trolls. Lem trolls. Jersey trolls. I troll. There is no specific anti-trolling rule here. There are several rules that place limits on trolling, however. If you troll by personal attack, your post will get moved from Paradise to Prison. If the troll is an attempt to derail the thread, it will be moved to its own thread. And if you spam the board with trolling posts, they will be moved to outer darkness. That's how moderation works.

As for your claim that I am "gleeful" about any of Doc's posts, kindly put up or shut up. I know you can't put up, because it's a lie.

In short, you believe that pushing back against the bigotry that Doc Cam shows and hurls on others is beyond you and for you to address it in any other way would make the board worse. Your approach is to apply some cranky socratic B.S. on someone like me but to turn in a complaint form to the moderators where there is real insults, bigotry and bullying. And you have a multi-paragraph explanation here to show that Doc Cam is an exception (laissez-faire) and I am an exception (challenge Socratically) and Atlanticmike is an exception (have someone delete his posts). Your submission is noted.

You realize, Res, that Doc Cam is using the most heinous and horrible material and insults one can come up with to hurt people. And you believe you would make it worse to stand up to it or suggest that anyone other than Shades remedy the situation. I have no patience for your ilk, Res. I am putting up. I am not shutting up. Short version: I voted for more moderation. I am emphatically stating that Gadianton is unfit to moderate this forum in any way, Res is worse. Lem and Jersey have an agenda. Moderation may be necessary which is why I voted for it, but obviously these posters are not appropriate.

"Insane" is not a clinical diagnosis of logic. If there were something wrong with my logic, you should be able to explain the problem rather than just throw labels around.

My approach to all rule breaking is the same: let those with the ability to enforce the rules do so. I don't have the ability to do so. I have both tried it your way in the past and seen others try it your way and my conclusion is that it never solves the problem and always makes it worse.

None of what you list as "exceptions" are exceptions to that rule. I engaged you in a step by step examination of your logic, not because you violated a rule, but because you made false statements about me that had no basis in fact. I have not argued that different rules should be applied to Doc, a fact which you already admitted. And I've never suggested that Atlantic Mike delete his posts.

Seriously, I have to leave out here shortly. When I return I might take things into my own desperate hands and start some nomination threads and in an effort to get 'er done so Shades has something more to work with than this bombed out poll thread.

Both of you know how the gears work. If you screw something up, it can be repaired. What can't be repaired right now is the status of the Paradise Forum and any poster who primarily posts here in Terrestrial can see what's going on in other other forum but witnessing some of the handiwork on this very thread.

I would also suggest that Gad follow through on his idea to moderate this very thread. I will lay my screen name on the line for that. If he decides to moderate this thread and Shades takes strong exception, he can ban me eternally.

I've been trying to do it with you for like 20 years now.

Oh wait. You mean the moderator nominations? Yeah, we can't put anyone in place ourselves. Shades has to do that. The thing is, is that Gad probably has the access needed as tech to moderate this board so he could jump in and do that quite easily. I mean he could save it and it looks like he's willing.

Trust Harry, I mean Gad, he's our only hope and he's a good one at that.
