plot twist: God hates suits with white shirts. It's representative of mammon and wealth that can't navigate the eye of the needle.

source: trust me
Ironically, this is a Scripture Mastery verse (or at least it was when I taught Seminary 30 years ago):
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

I’m guessing the anti-Mormon film was Witnesses?
Good question. What was the “anti Mormon” film? Was it actually an anti Mormon film or was it a documentary about Mayan history? How did they know about the event, MidGely stalking the Protestants? Why did these two grown adult men with families choose a silly prank over spending time with their families on the Sabbath?
Questions,

Perhaps you were unaware of the periodic enthusiasms for anti-Mormon movies and presentations that have happened in Evangelical churches. I don't find it particularly surprising that Peterson might have curiosity about what was being presented. I think the chances of it being a film about Mayan history are zero or something very close to that.

You wonder how he knew about it, it may likely have been advertised. Other announcements could be possible.

In any case, I find myself seeing it much like Physics Guy, no harm. I do not see harm done by Mormons seeking to counter antimormon propaganda. Well it is true some individuals are more abrasive than helpful. I see Peterson as a bit mixed on that account.

Some time ago I stumbled on Tanner message board where some LDS apologists were eager to present their view. I thought that was an excellent thing, much better than hand waving and just saying the Tanners are bad. There was a Charles Pyle who was thoughtful, knowledgeable, and a gentleman. There was a Pahoran who was naughty. Peterson was bit in-between. There were several apologists who now post here. That might suggest the apology business has difficulty working. I suppose abrasive apologists do not help but the real problem lies I think in what is to be defended.

I don't feel like wagging my finger at any of these people. This evangelical church was showing some kind of film criticising Mormonism from their perspective, and two Mormon apologists showed up in uniform. I'm sure both parties were delighted. They were all consenting adults, and what happened was only what both sides hoped would happen.
I think you’re probably right, Physics Guy, but the trouble is that Professor Peterson doesn’t provide us with information that would allow us to verify what he’s saying. Were the EVs “delighted” that these Mopologetic “white shirts” had somehow found out about and decided to attend this screening? Maybe. Possibly. But we only have a very one-sided and tendentious version of the story.

But hey, I’m sure that, for the faithful readers at SeN, this is clearly a victory for Team Mormon! Add it to the Hitchins File as an example of all the good that Mormonism has done!

Meanwhile, I howled with laughter when I read this:
People who actually know me won’t be surprised to hear that I really, really, really dislike and always try to avoid unpleasant in-person confrontations.
Ha ha! What about *not* “in-person” confrontations, though? Like, say, sending unwelcome emails to people, or showing up uninvited on RfM??

Well, I suppose the best evidence in this case is the ende
Less censorship and banning of critics from his blog. So, yeah: I can see how he’s made an effort to eliminate “unpleasant confrontations.”
"If, while hoping that everybody else will be honest and so forth, I can personally prosper through unethical and immoral acts without being detected and without risk, why should I not?." --Daniel Peterson, 6/4/14

Want to hear more about this?! Was Bill Reel present? Were Dr. Peterson and any fellow bargees wearing tiny bullet-proof vests?

Thank you for that, I was unaware.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.
