The Trolley Problem--Nemo the Mormon is back
Ahh, God commanding the slaying of Laban--a moral inquiry. Just 6 minutes.

Re: The Trolley Problem--Nemo the Mormon is back
Interesting video.
In Joseph Smith's original draft of the Book of Mormon, Nephi was actually caught in the barn committing adultery with Laban's 14 year old daughter, but Oliver Cowdery felt that was too racy and sensational of a plotline, so they decided to go with the theft and murder.
Also, if Nephi was commanded to kill Laban because it was better for one man to perish than an entire nation dwindle and perish in unbelief, why didn't God command Nephi to kill Laman and Lemuel? The whole killing Laban thing has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

Mormon morality - murdering the defenseless and committing adultery since 1828.

I think it was B.H. Roberts in one of your quotes who pointed out how childish these story lines are.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 5:44 pmInteresting video.

I believe the joke here is that Joseph Smith is the author of the Book of Mormon, and Smith liked to include elements of his own life into the stories. The joke being that he included the affair with 14 year old Fanny Alger.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 3:10 amCould you link to your source?Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 5:44 pmIn Joseph Smith's original draft of the Book of Mormon, Nephi was actually caught in the barn committing adultery with Laban's 14 year old daughter, but Oliver Cowdery felt that was too racy and sensational of a plotline, so they decided to go with the theft and murder.

And before you say that joke is distasteful, think about how distasteful Smith’s actions themselves were…

As with most stories from church history this one has more to it. I would simply suggest that folks do additional research in this regard. I did years ago, and I'm comfortable with all of the 'moving parts'. If you're going to call the whole thing a dirty and nasty affair you are then obligated to support that accusations from multiple sources.drumdude wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:59 amI believe the joke here is that Joseph Smith is the author of the Book of Mormon, and Smith liked to include elements of his own life into the stories. You’re welcome to dismiss Oliver Cowdery’s letter to his brother, of course. I tend to believe him. He is after all one of the 3 witnesses.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:44 pmAs with most stories from church history this one has more to it. I have no doubt that you are comfortable with Mormon God having a pedophile for a chosen vessel for restoring truth. Mormon history is a steaming pile of horse crap for the current members to sniff and proclaim to be wholesome and delightful. Now, do what they tell ya.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:44 pmAs with most stories from church history this one has more to it. More to it than that. Oliver and Emma were not willing to accept that Joseph had taken Fanny as a plural wife and/or that she had been sealed to him. There are no first hand witnesses and Fanny's family members followed the saints out to Utah. There are other 'moving parts' in there also.drumdude wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:54 pmYou’re welcome to dismiss Oliver Cowdery’s letter to his brother, of course. I tend to believe him. Cowdery later came back into the church.
