The major problem with the Trump as VP plan is all of the nutbars who might take out the president to get him back in the top spot.

Kelly is definitely high on my list of acceptable candidates for VP. My favorite, however, is still Sheldon Whitehouse. It's too bad he's not in the running. I would rather see him as President, though, than as VP. Maybe in 2028 or 2032?

I like Whitehouse well enough but I wonder if he brings enough to the table as a representative from RI. I think one of the reasons you've seen Kelly and Shapiro jump to the top of the list is that they help a lot in critical battleground states. Whether we like it or not a big piece of VP selection is helping to round out your Pres candidate be it policy, background, demographic, or geographic.

Yes, I see what you mean. I have to admit that those are valid considerations. Even being the best and most qualified person for the job of President or Vice Present may not help much if the nominee's name recognition and influence doesn't extend much further than such a tiny state as Rhode Island, even though it is solid blue.
