Robert L Millet is my second favorite speaker. I have a number of his talks saved to my computer, as well as a number of his talks on cd that I listen to going too and from work. I don't understand the problem you have with what is said here. The gospel comes Line upon Line, precept upon precept. Did Christ teach the Apostles the fulness of the gospel right away? or did he teach them faith, then repentence, then baptism, and so forth and so on until he took three with him to the mount of transfiguration?
I really wish you would study more polygamy, then you might not misunderstand when things like this are said.

Gaz, I have studied. Thus my reaction to such blatant deception and brainwashing.Gazelam wrote:Robert L Millet is my second favorite speaker. Isn't the teaching of becoming a god CORE doctrine of both SLC and Fundie LDS?
So when someone asks a member if that is what the LDS believe, why not answer with pride and conviction? Instead you are to slip on the waitress tap shoes and try to pull away the big steak of MEAT that they are already dining on and try to get them to drink some sappy warm milk? Another lie? In the spring of 1820 a young horny teenage boy went into the woods to masturbate....
What I cannot believe is your inability to see cow manure when you smell it.
Me do some studying? HELLO???!?!? Ehh hemm... I think it is you Mr. Gaz that is in dire need of some serious outta the chapel unbiased study.

Apparently so.

Nowhere does it say he taught them those things in that order.

What does polygamy have to do with whether Mormons believe mankind can become gods?

Polygamy porter, the person I was addressing. Like you didn't know that.
Porter, You might be able to understand the things of the spirit more if you lost your addiction to pornography. When you spend so much of your free time focused on that, it blocks out the spirit of the Holy Ghost.

Is that all you have?
Men are visual right? They like to look at hot women, especially if their TBM wife is not.
For the record, I don't need porn. Do you?
My wife is hot and very, should we say, engaging.
Nort has seen my wife in person, and can attest to her hotness.
So sorry Gaz, no need for porn here.
Oh and for the record, the only spirits that entire the Porter tabernacle of clay come from a bottle :)
My new home teacher is Capitan William Morgan(a.k.a. Cap'n Morgan Spiced Rum), I look forward to his visits with his companion Tattoo.
When I am not drinking my namesake, I'd like to try the beer of my new temple chant, "Oh God, Beer tastes good in my mouth", Pay Lay Ale:

Does that mean by "cunning indoctrination"?
I think that problem is that the "line upon line, precept upon precept" notions are not accurate.
When I was a missionary it went like this, 1) Joseph learns that anyone who "lacks wisdom" can ask of god and not be upbraided, 2) that the creeds of all the sects are abominations and that 3) an angel has plates for him to translate.
Now, assuming we're going to take the "line upon line, precept upon precept" approach, each of those assertions should be challenged, questioned, researched, understood, and explained. But that is not done. There is only one version of the lines and precepts carefully fed to people who are investigating the church. It's the Church's line and the precept is "what we tell you is the truth".
Millet is telling prospective missionaries that the uncomfortable questions are the wrong questions and we just won't answer them...until we've caught them in the trap. And once they're caught we tell them that anything that disagrees with what the missionaries taught them is "anti-Mormon propaganda" made up by "enemies of the Church". In fact, we tell them only to read church approved sources of history.
So we learn the following:
- 1. Even though the investigator "asks of God" he is most certainly NOT going to get Joe's 1st Vision.
- 2. He finds out in April 1820 that "the creeds are an abomination" but he and his family continue to attend and join them.
- 3. Even though Joe was given "Golden Plates" to "translate by the gift and power of God" there are thousands of corrections necessary in the godly translation, he never really needed the plates because he translated by putting his face in a hat, they were protected by a "shock" force-field even though he had to keep hiding them and he couldn't retranslate the lost pages because they might be altered -- never mind that an altered manuscript would be a good discovery and easy to discredit through a variety of means...just look what we've done with the Book of Abraham parchments.
So, instead of teaching things "line upon line" they are taught "carefully and partially"...to the discredit of honest people purveying the message.
"Suppose we've chosen the wrong god. Every time we go to church we're just making him madder and madder" --Homer Simpson's version of Pascal's Wager

Mormon Liar
I don't know what your REAL problem is with the church, but your obviously unfamiliar with the spirit of revelation and its function.
The Spirit of revelation is given to those who prepare themselves to be instructed by God. Paul taught:
1 Cor. 2:11-14
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Joseph was not ready to receive the plates, so for a time they were kept from him as he prepared himself to receive them. Joseph had to grow in smallere things before he was ready for larger responsibilities that required more of him spiritualy.
The same principle applied to the Savior himself.
D&C 93:12-14, 19-24
12 And I, John, saw that he received not of the fulness at the first, but received grace for grace;
13 And he received not of the fulness at first, but continued from grace to grace, until he received a fulness;
14 And thus he was called the Son of God, because he received not of the fulness at the first.
19 I give unto you these sayings that you may understand and know how to worship, and know what you worship, that you may come unto the Father in my name, and in due time receive of his fulness.
20 For if you keep my commandments you shall receive of his fulness, and be glorified in me as I am in the Father; therefore, I say unto you, you shall receive grace for grace.
21 And now, verily I say unto you, I was in the beginning with the Father, and am the Firstborn;
22 And all those who are begotten through me are partakers of the glory of the same, and are the church of the Firstborn.
23 Ye were also in the beginning with the Father; that which is Spirit, even the Spirit of truth;
24 And truth is bknowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;
A person learns to recive revelation, and know and understand the spirit and its feel and function, gaining knowledge with each visit. They come unto the Holy Ghost further through the waters of baptism, and as they remain clean and grow through study and prayer, they follow in the footsteps of the Savior, and grow in Spirit and truth towards their Father and heaven.
Joseph began the translation of the Book of Mormon with the seer stone, but eventually did not need it. He grew in knowledge and became a greater seer himself in the process, eventually reading the text on his own.
The gospel of Christ stretchs and improves us through trial. Its how we stay faithful and grow through the trials
that God measures us.
