New poll: Mormon Mitt has tough row to hoe ....
See link below for article about a new poll showing that 43% would not vote for Mitt because of his Mormonism (even worse, 52% of Evangelicals said they wouldn't vote for Mormon Mitt). A few months ago a similar poll showed this number in the high 30's, so it's getting worse for Mitt.

"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

I seem to be in the minority among exmos, but Mitt's being a Mormon doesn't concern me. I'm more interested in a person's positions than his or her religion. I'm surprised that the number of people who wouldn't vote for a Mormon is that high. Guess it means that the church still has a lot of PR work to do.

And this demonstrates that there are still a lot of religous bigots (my qualifier is the comment above the states they won't vote for him because od his Mormonsism. These folks are religous bigots. If they have other reasons then they are not) out there especially among the evangelicals.

I've lived in the Bible Belt most of my life. I don't care how willing EVs are to jump into the same political bed as Mormons, I don't care how publicly some of the EVs kiss up to Mormons - the vast majority of them will never, never, vote for a Mormon. Don't you all get it yet? They believe Mormonism is Satanic. It would be like voting for satan's manchurian candidate.
And yes, this IS real bigotry (which does exists, and is minimized by those who lump secular critics in with EV anti Mormons).

You're absolutely right, beastie. I live in the Bible Belt as well, and I can't imagine EVs here ever voting for a Mormon.

One large irony most Mormons will be unable to understand or appreciate, is that the highest political office held by a Mormon is that of Senator Harry Reid a Democrat from Nevada, in his role as Senate Majority Leader. The irony is that this position could not be duplicated in the Republican party, due to their dislike of Mormons, yet Mormons will continue voting Republican till they are told not to by the Brethren.

I'm with you on this one. I honestly don't see how Mitt Romney would be all that different from any other Republican canidate. To me this fact shows it truly is a case of bigotry. Just the label Mormon and all of the sudden everyone is running. Even excluding the political dogma that we somehow are endowed with equal rights, the prejudice still seems irrational and unfounded to me. The Republican party would do best to just let it play out without making a stink over it. Even under the best of circumstances, Romney would never win the nomination. The party is already divided enough over illegal and mass immigration. Choose your battles or you'll be paying 80% of your income in taxes to provide for Bill Clinton's harems. Being a normal white man will become a curse to those who are and Hillary will make sure you never see your kids again.

And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
