Would you vote for an atheist for president?

Maybe you saw this in the paper today. Some of it surprised me!
(I don't call myself an atheist because I believe in the idea of a God, kind of, just not the Bible god.)

Don't worry an atheist would not run for pres, anyway...we already got a Mormon

I would probably not vote an atheist for President.
Do you mind if I ask why? For some reason not mentioned in the link, or was the link just not convincing for you? Thanks.
Hi there,
I think that it is important for me to have a President to believe that there is some kind of a God out there. I think that it is important for me to have a President to believe in a higher Power. I also like it when the Presidnet states, 'God bless American.' I did just recently read the Article you linked to, and it is just not that convincing for me. I still probably would not vote for an atheist for President, along with at least 60 percent of the rest of the American Population.

I guess it would depend on the type of atheist, like Loran said. My reasons are not the same as his, but I would want to know whether or not this person would like to push forth his/her beliefs (or lack of belief) like some have who have come into office.
I don't care what God you do or do not worship. I want to know how safe and stable you're going to keep our country.
Right now we're having a lot of issues with religion in this country, and how it effects how we live. Perhaps a person who didn't believe in any of it could make impartial judgements.
