Because they aren't reading the text for what it says. It's possible that it contains an end times prophecy however, just like Matthew 24....it says what it says.

I read somewhere that some fundamentalist evangelicals are exacerbating the situation here in the states, perpetuating intolerance of Muslims and fostering more "Christian hatred" in an attempt to bring on Armageddon and Christ's return. They're so sure they'll be protected during this crisis, unlike all us heathens, and when Christ returns, they'll be swept up. Don't they know the rapture isn't even biblical? Not only that but that scripture in matthew about the two in the field and one being taken, it doesn't say who is taken...people draw their own conclusions.
A VERY good explanation of Revelation that I got a few years back in institute was that John didn't know how to describe what he was seeing, if in fact what he was seeing was futuristic for him. Not only that, there are no set dates for prophecies in the Bible, and they were written not to predict happenings in a specific time period, but to declare God's intentions as a whole. Man has distorted that.
Another theory that stuck with me is that Revelation was a vision of the impending destruction of the Roman empire. Don't know if that's correct or not.
The bottom line for me is that I don't look to Revelation, Nostradamus, or anyone for what's to come in these turbulent times. It's enough dealing with today, why can't we focus on making today better, instead of trying to goad Christ into returning to the earth? What if that occurrence isn't even as we thought it would be?

Hi All, seems to be a consensus that John's Book of Revelation is better understood not to be as generally interpreted by establishment Christianism as describing a place and time of reward for the faithful in Christ...?? GIMR says:
...Quite likely because Christianism, as proponed by THE tradition believed Revelations to be true. Billions of believers have been duped to imagine the next life as the best/ultimate place and state of existance. This life as an endurance test in which to earn points of entry to Heaven AND Exaltation for the Elite...
That such superstitions and illusions remain as primary factors of influence on so much of human thought and behaviour is a challenge that seems all-but insurmountable. But it isn't because of Sites like this and Universities--some even sectarian--that seek truth with honesty, honour and integrity without 'apologetics'. Praise "God"! Roger

To be quite honest, Roger, The Revelation (tm) could have been written by someone with alzheimer's and we would never know!
(As an aside, my dad had the disease. It does make you see things that aren't there, and changes your reality).
