Yes if their persons politics agreed with mine.

I do not have a God or religous litmus test.

However, I am still amazed at how many rave about putting someone like Romney in office because they think his religous beliefs are strange. On Slate someone wrote that because Romney believes in a "con man" he should not be voted for, ant then tried to say that Christian beliefs were ok, even if Jesus was not what he claimed, because they have stood the test of time. So, believing in something that may be false-to the author- is ok, is the belief has been there for a long time.

Absolutely.

I don’t understand the link between believing in a god and national safety and stability?

As an atheist, I love my country and family as much as anyone else. I would want no less for them then a “believer” would. Morals are not the sole property of religious groups.

Why would a belief in the supernatural make for a more stable President?

RM: It wouldn't, anymore than a non-belief would. It's unfortunate that religious types through the ages have seem themselves superior. A condition that is declining. Which is to say there is still some bigotry and prejudice that remains.
Being responsible, informed and responsive has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with intelligence, integrity, honesty and honour. Which may be found in both camps. No exclusive franchise rights.

Hi there, (RM will respond in bold)
I think that it is important for me (your right) to have a President to believe that there is some kind of a God out there. (Why is that important to You?) I think that it is important for me to have a President to believe in a higher Power. (Again "Why?") I also like it when the Presidnet states, 'God bless American.' (Interesting the different opinions: I would prefer the statement, verbally or on license plates, to be "God Forgive America")I did just recently read the Article you linked to, and it is just not that convincing for me. (Nor to everyone. But, i hope it does put something else on the plate to consider.) I still probably would not vote for an atheist for President, along with at least 60 percent of the rest of the American Population. (Questionable justification to determine such an important issue. Would you place yourself in the same majorities re: smoking, booze, divorce, fear and guilt motivations, etc.?)

(

It would be a simple fix if we could depend that all bible-believers were better than non-believers or visa-versa. Not so. Informed decision making requires more than simplistic faith... Warm regards, Roger
