Juliann would do herself a far better service if she would examine the cultish aspects of the celestial country club with which she affiliates herself.
I've said it before and I'll say it again regarding that worn out phrase about people leave Mormonism but can't leave it alone---- Mormonism doesn't deserve to be left alone!

Thanks for posting the emails, Kevin - I don't think I had read them in their entirety. Did Juliann read all of these exchanges before declaring that Bromley was talking about *me* misusing his theory? Just curious, because the context of your exchange makes it obvious he was not.

Thanks for posting the emails, Kevin---they made for absolutely captivating reading. I think my favorite part was this:
(emphasis added)David Bromley wrote:I agree with your assessment. In addition to the believers there is a large number of former members who simply resume their former lives. However, it is very common in strong faiths for the transition period to be difficult and for individuals to seek support. Those folks in no way fit my concept of apostasy. I share your sympathy for those making a difficult transition and have much less sympathy for those trying to stigmatize them.

Before the thread was moved to pundits and before I jumped in, Dan Vogel made a very astute comment to Juliann: part of the problem with the way she uses information is that she is always, always, functioning as an apologist - which is far different than functioning as a sociologist.

heh, it must KILL her to know that Kevin did have permission to post the emails. No wonder she is letting the thread drop like a hot potato.

Not only that, but did you read the email she sent Mauss?
She did everything in her email she assumed negatively in mine:
1) lied, saying I said two things I never did.
2) provided no link to the discussion
3) tried to change Mauss' perception of me by citing Old Testament of context statements I made on this forum.
It must have really made her go borderline insane to find out he sent me a copy of that. He also attached an email telling the BOTH of us that he would no longer discuss this with EITHER of us.
I also noticed that Juliann never responded to my last post at MAD, in the Convert's Role thread. I pretty much decimated everything she said prior in the thread, which is why she hasn't responded; she can't.

I guess I don't understand the whole intent of those repeated threads. It seemed to me pretty clear that Juliann was trying to dismiss RfM as a whole as being part of that "angry exie" thing, but when I asked, she said, no, she just meant some small subset that could be considered a "professional" apostate. I think that might be an interesting phenomenon to study (as far as how people like Decker operate), but the way it was set up seemed intent on broadening the subset as far as possible. As I told her, I didn't think that made much sense.
And no, she never did answer your post.

Wow, that's so funny. I totally remember her saying that quite clearly.
