As I noted in the other thread, I do not view one with a TR (and who honestly answered the TR questions) as necessarily "TBM." For me, "TBM" is one who holds rigid and traditional orthodox ideas and outlook. A quick example: a "TBM" may be one who agrees with Elder Bednar's talk that following GBH in all things, including such silly rules as the number of earrings a woman might wear, is the standard we should follow. I disagree with such a notion, even though I feel I "sustain" GBH and other Church leadership. For me, "to sustain" does not mean "to obey" or "follow without question." But for those I consider "TBM," "to sustain" does indeed mean "to obey in all things, etc."

How did this term get wrapped up as a moniker for those who hold a much narrower view of things and who stress obedience as the primary principle of the Gospel?

I don't really know. It's been used that way online for as long as I can remember.

Hi, thank you for the welcome! I have been a lurker on some other boards. I followed a link here sometime ago and saved it in my favorites. Basically, I joined the LDS church a little over a year ago without doing much research and hope to learn more here.
I am 29 years of age (plus some) and mother to two young tots.

Hi twinkie!
You say you joined the church about a year ago without doing much research. What is it you think/feel you'd like to learn more about?
