Sounds like a sitcom. Guy owns a bar but preaches against it.
Coming soon on ABC...A Hypocrite, A Harem, and A Hooch House.
Didn't the Word of Wisdom come out years after Smith's death?

D&C 89 does not prohibit alcohol consumption. It simply recommends that one not use it (with a possible exceptoin for the sacrament). Seems like good advice if you ask me.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Then why is abstinence from alcohol a requirement to get into the temple and, ultimately, heaven?

Seems to me like the bar was in the hotel that Joseph ran. I'm fuzzy with cold meds, so I may be thinking of someone else.

You know what is weird...
The D&C specifically states that the WoW came as a revelation. Now... as a believer, if God gives a revelation wouldn't you think it should be followed?
The D&C says it is not a commandment but a revelation. So, what... one only has to abide by God's word if God commands it? I just found it weird that the excuse for Joseph Smith was that God didn't command one to follow the WoW so it is not big deal.
In other words, God gives a revelation to a prophet and he doesn't abide by it because it was not commanded of him.
I hear this excuse a lot regarding the revelation to eat mean sparingly... so what if God said this, it is not a commandment so eat as much as you want. OK... whatever.
What baffles me is why this NON-commandment all of a sudden became a requirement to get into the CKHL. Of course the answer is, God can do as he wishes and so he can change whatever he wants to... scripture says it is not a commandment, prophet says it is, prophet Trump's scripture I guess.
