About the "If" questions

Post by _Jersey Girl »

Folks,

You probably missed my comments to harmony on the Word of Wisdom thread I began. The If questions that I have posted here are on behalf of a real life person who was meeting with LDS missionaries tonight. I gave the person a few questions to ask. I've asked them here so that the person can see LDS criticsms and defenses in practice. That is to say, the discussions are going to be passed on to a new investigator who has become interested in the roots of Mormonism. That is to say, I'm going to link them to the discussions. That is to say...someone else is going to be evaluating our discussions.

In any case, for those of you who complain that this board places too great an emphasis on following the FAIR/MAD board, now's your chance to engage in topical discussion unrelated to FAIR/MAD!

Thanks for posting those Jersey. They started interesting discussions.

Well, I'd like to think so, Gaz. Others may disagree.

So the "if" threads have run their course? Is that correct?

I don't know what you mean by that, maklelan. Are you asking if the threads have become inactive or are you asking if I intend to post more of the same type?

Everyone has ceded the Word of Wisdom argument, and no one appears to want to respond to the others, so I'm asking if they have served their purpose, and, now that I think about it, how has the individual for whom these questions were introduced responded?

maklelan,

I haven't read through the threads to the current postings. I will do so later today. I tend to think they would have served their purpose in demonstrating criticisms/defenses of a few topics in practice. The person for whom they were intended has not viewed the threads yet. The person (who met with the missionaries) visited with me about an hour ago briefly and the conversation largely surrounded their impression of the dialogue between themselves and the missionaries.

I suppose the threads will naturally exhaust themselves as all threads do.

Please have your friend post under your name here on this thread and share with us her thoughts on the missionary discussions. Would love to hear from her.

I don't know if that's possible. The person said they thought the missionarie's didn't "make sense". They also said that when the asked a question, the reply was that they would get back to that. That's the best I can tell you right now. They are reading Rough Rolling Stone right now...my copy!
