HEY! my friend is a follower of Cthulhu! (no joke, he follows the sumerian religion)

I'm about to get all Fanboy so bear with me:
Your friends devotion to the great old one is ironic for this Mormonism board. HP Lovecraft, the original author of the Cthulhu Mythos understood it as a fiction. In the 1970's some college kids, hippies and pranksters made what was called the Necronomicon. The Necronomicon is Lovecraftian fan fiction.

So your friend follows a book of little value...but hes probably putting you on. How old is this believer?

25-26. Much more into the occult than myself. He might have a few things to say about your view on the necronomicon.

Refer him to the Wikipedia article on such tome to specify source.

I'd still like to know his take though. Shoot me a PM if hes interested in expounding on Sumerian religion.

I prefer my Cthulu in the cuddly plush variety. I actually have one of these on the shelf in my closet. I used to read Lovecraft.

Back to the original topic, I think if the church were to remain quiet that would in fact be the best responce. To say anything woudl simply be to feed it.

I can hear the Bible belt salivateing from here.

Since I live in the Bible belt, and work with a lot of Evangelical Christians, I can tell you that they are hardly salivating. Most people I come into contact with don't even know what the Mormon Church is.

How deflating. To have God's authority and most people don't even know you exist?

I tend to agree with liz here. The evangelicals could probably outnumber the "active" Mormon church with just the megachurchs in Texas. Never mind the rest of the south, or the country for that matter.

Aside from self-deluded true believers who believe that the universe revolves around Salt Lake City and a clutch of evangelicals who see it as their life's calling to save wayward Mormons, the world's interest in the Mormon Church is best measured by units of "micro-give-a-s****."

For example, in Texas, interest in the Mormon Church equals approximagely .01 micro-give-a-s****, compared to, say, India where it equals somewhere around .0001 micro-give-a-s****.

How arrogant and ignorant. The Mormon Church is but one of hundreds and hundreds of churches which each have their own dogma and doctrines. That you do not appear to know that is demonstration of ignorance.
