Should we shut down FAIR/MADD?
Should we shut it down? Well we could. How? By boycotting it.
The mods and MADD royalty-juliass, DCP, charity, sethbag, and selek clearly don't want us there. Frank, open, honest, and respectful discussion is what makes any board vibrant. It's clearly being moderated into oblivion. I know of no site on the net that is more heavily moderated.
By participating, we are giving credence to their claim that they are a open and fair forum for discussion of issues relating to Mormonism.
If we all leave, then these blowhards will only have themselves to discuss things with. It'll wither on the vine.
FAIR/MADD exists to help questioning members stay in the church. But if a doubting member comes to the board looking for help, they will be viscously attacked and are labeled a troll and a sock puppet and will get banned. Great, they're helping to drive people out of the church. Someone asks a legitimate question and gets hammered.
But then again, it seems that we might want to keep the status quo. Who knows, maybe the owners of MADD are really exmos trying to drive people out of the church? Maybe juliass, DCP, charity, sethbag, and selek are the tools of an exmo?

I pointed this out ages ago. People get a kick out of rattling the apologists' chains, and are well aware that the apologists will never come here, where they are unprotected. So... quality critics like The Dude and Tarski spend a great deal of their time on MAD... and little of it here. We simply don't offer the same kick.

If the best critics were to leave (Tarski, Dude, Uncle Dale) maybe the board would lose it's appeal. Those guys aren't getting banned though so I doubt it. And a mass leaving isn't going to work because most the people here are already banned.

I like discussing the cult as much as anyone else, but is MADD the place to do it? What I would like is a site where exmos, apologists, and TBMs can discuss things as long as their comments aren't spam, racist, sexist, ad hominem, or obscene.

I think the most likely of realistic scenarios for shutting down the MADB is potentially what is happening right on the Celestial Forum with the Dan Vogel thread, and that is offering a forum for real scholarship with "fair" moderation. That is what is going to lure the (Tarski, Dude, Uncle Dale)s of the MADB world out of there. If that happens more and more it will increase their own self imposed problems, mainly the tyrancial moderating, leading to their own destruction.
If they shut down, it will be of their own doing.

MAD's contention is that critics such as yourself, who refer to the church as "the cult", aren't interested in discussion, but are only interested in vilification and spewing venom. And they don't care what you would like, period. The only way MAD will die is if critics they actually like and respect, like The Dude and Tarski, leave. And they won't. (We already had this discussion with them.)

I've been boycotting, religiously, since November 5th.

I think that was the day I was banned too.
