Sweet Tomatoes in Sandy (I think) is by far the best for soups and salads (I go there every time I'm in SLC, even if I have to bum a ride).
Rodizio Brazilian restaurant. SLC. Very cool. Go hungry. Visit the little park that in the neighborhood if you want to see Joseph on the head of the Sphinx.
Dead Goat Saloon. SLC. Hilarious place.
Mandarin Restaurant, Bountiful. Very good Chinese.
Best ice cream: USU Creamery in Logan.

You may want to visit the Gilgal Sculpture Garden in Salt Lake. www.gilgalgarden.org
They have some pretty unique stuff including a Joseph Smith Spinx.

Gilgal! That's it! I couldn't remember the name of the park!
Jersey, it's really tucked away, so you have to go looking for it, but it's worth it, and it's right in the same neighborhood as the Rodizio. Just kitty-corner across the street, if I remember right.

Shouldn't the nose be chipped off? Where's Napoleon and his artillery?

Am I mistaken, or is this the garden that features a rather telling sculpture (as it were) of a women enclosed in a small, confined, prison-like structure?

Name some restaurants that are particular to the area that have good food!!
Also, there are a TON of scrapbooking and rubber stamp companies in Provo...does anyone know if they have outlets?

Restaurants:
Rodizio Grill downtown SLC, or if you want something with more space and the food is just as good, Tucanos at the Riverbottoms in Provo. They're both brazilian grill.
Sundance's Tree Room (a bit pricey) or the Foundry Grill....I love the ambiance in both and the food is great. You can stop by and check out Bridal Veil Falls on your way.
The best sushi I've found thus far in SLC is a small bar downtown called O'Shucks Bar and Grill. The downside is that smoking is allowed and you end up smelling like an ashtray if you spend lots of time there.
The Mayan Restaurant has mediocre mexican food, but it is a neat dining experience. You can watch divers and it feels like you are sitting in the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse.
I second Park City. Thanksgiving Point has some lovely gardens in the spring. And if you have never been to SLC, you simply cannot overlook temple square.
If you are staying for any length of time, I'd recommend you head down south a couple of hours to Moab which has fantastic deserts. Don't forget to stop by Goblin Valley which has some really unique mushroom-shapped rock formations.

Misery stated in another post that Utah is behind the times. I will have an opportunity to visit Utah this Spring (yes, the Ikea store in Draper, like that's your business). What do I need to know about visiting Utah? Do's / Don'ts?
Jersey Girl
Misery is clueless.
Utah is not behind the times at all. You will find it SLC like any other large western city such as Denver, Boise, Phoenix, etc. You will not be able to order a liquor beverage in a restaurant other then a beer though and all liquor is sold in a state run liquor stores..Actually I think Jason is the clueless one.. I am pretty sure in most large resturants you can order a mixed drink.. Before the Olympics it was really screwy, you had to specify a liquor in your drink
When I lived there, which was a long time ago, you could not order a drink in a resturaunt. You could bring in a mni bottle and have them mix it though. They called it the Liquor By Drink law. Could have changed.
So TAK, what else I am cluelees about. I grew up in Utah, have fmaily there, visit there often and it seem like any other place for the most part to me, at least for a visitor. If you live there you might get sick of the predominant LDS culture, as well as the strong LDS influence in politics there. I would not live there after being out as long as I have. But it is not behind the times or anything like that.
So if you wanted a margarita you had to say “with tequila” … Oh and the beer is watered down to 3.2%.
