And why wouldn't the very first converts or witnesses, have preserved the stone box as with the Book of Abraham papyrus that were later discovered in the museum in NYC?

1. The story grew in its telling. Who knows when someone actually said "well show me the box if you don't have the plates".
2. There was no box.

I like VegasRefugees pic, sucking on a tiny cigarrette butt and wearing aviator ray bands brings out the sort of tough rugged James Dean look. Poligamy Porter I must admitt, that putting ones garments back on according to the outcome of a possible scientific test seem a little strange to say the least. Still each to their own I guess; after all, we all march to the beat of a different drum and some apparently more than others. Well I didn't think the box being found was all that big of threat, after all it was empty. The problem would be if it had things in it, that were supposedly taken back to heaven, so if the Book of Mormon was actually found it would prove Mormonism FALSE, because the plates are suppose to be in the akashic archives in heaven or something not upon the earth.

What we have here is an "invisible dragon in the garage/teapot in orbit" scenario. The plates unreproducible nature gives it this categorization as such.
The box either existed or joe made it up. If the box or SUFFICIENT evidence of its existence does not exist then guess what the obvious answer is?

I know, I know!! There was no frigging stone box, no gold plates and no seer stones either. Hey, could this mean old joe smith was a pathological liar?

For those who joined later there is a first hand eye witness account of David Whitmer, that reports seeing the stone box casket first hand. 1875 I think.

I think the two go hand in hand in many cases. One could also add that the people he conned were simply not real bright, which means he would't have to be real clever to bs them, just mho though.
