MY OWN PERSONAL MIRACLE
In 1959 I had been in the Military for 11 years and I was on a thirty day leave to visit my family. I had met with a group of men that day and was on my way back home to be with my wife and family. When I drove to the front of my home I was about to enter the driveway of my home when I saw a large oil spill. I didn't want to get the oil on my tires so I said a few bad words and then went to investigate where that oil might have come from, like transmision, rearend, engine, and so on. However, when I reached the spot where the oil was, I discovered to my dismay that it was not oil at all; it was blood.
The next door neighbor came out of his house and told my my 2 year old daughter had been run over with a car right in my driveway, which I wont take the time to explain.
I rushed down to the hospital and it shocked my senses. My little girl lay comotose on her bed and the bed was covered with blood. She had a punchured lung, kidney, shattered spline, punchured daiphram, and a sever concusion where part of the brain was exposed.
Later that night the doctor came into the chapel where I had gone to pray and said; "Sir; If you are a religious man you had better call the priest."
I retrieved the phone number for the LDS church in Martinez, CA and was lucky enough to catch the bishop. I told him the story and he and another man came down to the hospital to bless my little girl after the doctors had given up on her.
After the bishop had seen my little girl he said to me. Brother *(*O)(*, I will not give your daughter a blessing tonight. We will fast until tomorrow evening to ask the Lord what HE would have us do. We will bless your girl that she might live through the night.
I was more than a little shocked to hear them bless my daughter and tell her that she would sleep and would live through the night. However, that is exactly what happened. She survived the night and even her bleeding had slowed down.
The following evening the same two men came in and gave my little girl a blessing, and that was the first time I ever felt the influence of the Holy Spirit. I wont go into what they promised her but I will say that every thing they promised her came true.
She is a mother of 4 children herself now even though she was never supposed to ever have any children.
I'm not saying that she just jumped out of bed and started dancing, that was certainly not the case. She was in the hospital, or in and out of the hospital for over a year. The doctors were waiting for her to become strong enough for them to operate on her and remove her right kidney and repair some other parts of her anotomy that had been injured.
My daughter made medical history because it was the first time that a kidney lay dormant for over a year and then begin working again all by itself.
That was my time to become as active as I could in the Church of Jesus Christ. And I thank my God still for the testimony it has given others in my family.

grampa75,
I'm pretty sure that sooner or later, someone is going to reply here and attempt to challenge your story as a miracle response from God through the blessing of your Bishop. I would like my post to be the first one that you read.
I do not hold with people making predictions for God however, I do believe that we can access God and that God can access us. If someone here wishes to debate that statement, I'm not going to let you engage me.
I am satisfied that you see this as a miracle and that you believe it came from God.

that's an amazing tale, and thank you for sharing it. Most of the time you never hear about things like that, but they do happen all the time.
I think we barely understand the priesthod and what its capable of, if only we would live worthy to have the spirit and would give him more of a listening ear.
Again thank you for sharing that.

I don't want to seem too cynical - but how do you know it was God that did this? How do you know that the blessing did this?
Things like this happen. They happen to Catholics. They happen to Scientologists. They happen to Atheists.
And then, you've got LDS people who die after blessings. When that happens, you usually hear "Well, God needed this soul in heaven" or something along those lines.
Unexplained things happen all the time. I just don't understand why the default position is "God did it".
On a lighter note - I'm glad your daughter made it, and is alive and well today. I have a son that spent some time in Primary Children's Hospital as a newborn - so I know what it's like to almost lose a child. Thank god (figuratively) for advances in medical care.

Dear grampa75:
Thank you for your willingness to share that with us. I'm glad she made it through.

I absolutely believe that God chose for your little one to stay here a little longer. I also believe a story a man told me one day about how he had a serious illness . The doctor told him he would probably never walk again. The catholic priest came in and prayed for him- whatever it is they do- I am not catholic so I don't know if they do a blessing like LDS do or what. He said he immediately improved - and is walking again!
So, I believe both accounts. What I believe is God healed them and not the person who asked on their behalf.

Thank you Jersey Girl, and I also believe that we each can communicate with God through the Holy Spirit if we only believe we can. I know I have used instances of stress to teach my children the power and goodness of God. For example:
I was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with my son when he got a call from my wife telling him to hurry home because his wife had been in an accident and she was pregnant with her second child. My son and I and my two Grandsons left Jackson Hole Immediately and tried to drive to Blackfoot, Idaho where my grand daughter was in the hospital. However, we hit a blizzard that dark February night and could barely see in front of the car. It got so bad that we had to stop and my son became emotional he was so concerned over his wife. The flakes of snow just seemed to get bigger and bigger every moment. My son continued driving through that terrible storm until I finally understood that this was a perfect teaching condition for my two grandchildren. I told my son to pull over to the side of the road and stop. After we stopped we had a word of prayer asking that we may reach our destination in safety. It seemed that the snow suddenly stopped. We began traveling and I asked both of my grandchildren who they each thought it was that had stopped the storm for us. They both said it could only be God.
When any situation like that comes up in your life you can take it as a blessing as Ammon did when a large group of Lamanites were scattering the sheep and Ammon also knew it was from God to convince those people that God would answer his prayers. And I can promise any member of the Church that these situations should be looked upon exactly like that. God seems to love the opportunity to demonstrate to young people how much HE actually loves them, and will answer their prayers if they only stay faithful to him in the Church.
We finally arrived in Blackfoot, Idaho some 3 hours after we left Jackson Hole to discover that my stepdaughter had gone into labor in her seventh month. However, my wife and called our home teacher and another man to come to the hospital and give my daughter a blessing. Everything came out all right and I believe my son paused to think of the power and influence that God has in each of our lives.

Thank you for your remarks. I believe like Brigham Young that a good man will still be a good man no matter what religion he belongs to.
