Runtu, do you have any suggestions to aid them in any capriciousness?

I think a Magic 8 ball would help.

I'm guessing it has to do with people who irritate them, for whatever reason. It's clear that posting anything critical here irritates them, so that would be a start. As for the people mentioned, here's my take:

Mormonthinker: Would not surprise me.

Minofyre: This person's posts have been all over the map. I think they might ban him/her just because of the unpredictability.

Asuram: I'm still waiting for someone to fess up on this one. Has to be a sockpuppet. Of course, in the beginning, I thought Hammer and charity were trolls/sockpuppets.

Selek: I don't see him getting banned, for some reason. Way too dogmatic for me.

The Dude and Sethbag: I think they'd have to be crazy to ban either one.

Sometimesaint: heshe's too benign to be banned.

Jaybear and MightyCurelom: Back when I was a TBM on there, I was sure MC was going to get banned any second. Never happened. Jaybear gets people angry. I could see him or Tarski getting the axe.

MAD Moderation Meeting--Minutes 4/14/07

Orpheus: Order...I want order. Let's start the meeting. Okay what's on the docket Mrs. Secretary.

Dunamis: Today we have the possibilities of banning The Dude and Pahoran.

Orpheus: Well let's go around the table. What do we have to say about them....Dunamis?

Dunamis: The Dude is an easy going guy with a great personality and wit who is smart in the DNA area. And he's cute as hell!

Argos: He has a sockpuppet!

Dunamis: That's alright...so did Will Schryver.

Chaos: We've warned him before!

Dunamis: We've warned a ton of LDS posters.

Orpheus: Need I remind you he's posting on that porn and profanity filled Mormondiscussions.com. We banned a ton of people for posting there with no other reasons. Shall I list them?

Dunamis: No...we only have a few hours to get this meeting in. But with all those compelling arguments, I guess we can grant The Dude his wish and let him go! Bye bye Dude! *a tear forms but turns into an icicle*

Orpheus: Now to our other banning candidate. Pahoran.

Chaos: O brother! Again?

Skylla: He is the king of ad hominem!
Nemesis: We've warned him numerous times!
Skylla: He treats people like crap!
Nemesis: We need to make an example to other LDS to treat people better!
Momus: Who wants a refill on their coke?

Dunamis: Listen up you newbies. This is obviously your first mod meeting. Obviously there's only one thing to do.

Nemesis: Red letter warnings?

Argos: A private email of congratulations for his defense of the faith?

Skylla: A suspension (quietly of course)?

Orpheus: No! No! NO! We have to ban anyone he talks to so that he stops his bad behavior.

Skylla/Nemesis: Brilliant!

Dunamis: So we're agreed. The Dude is banned and Pahoran stays. Everyone make up your lists of who Pahoran posts against so that we can ban them ASAP and stop his attacking. That's the only thing we can do right?

Orpheus: Right! Meeting adjourned.

Well done. I was waiting for one of the mods to chime in about how they have to keep at least a few critics around for research on her dissertation on angry exies.

Selek got suspended? That warms my heart. How'd it happen?

He mentioned losing his posting priviledges on a thread in March. Looks like it was for five days-he returned March 26th. I'm pretty certain it was over the altercation I mentioned on this MD thread here:

http://www.mormondiscussions.com/discus ... c&start=40

The comments which got him in trouble were made in an effort to defend Charity--however, he got a little "carried away". Selek's not a bad guy. He can be very polite when he chooses to be. I think he's only following the example set by some of the more strident, bully voices on the board and when he does that, he can be rude.

Jaybear and MightyCurelom are MaDB fixtures--they're aren't going anywhere.

Ya know, I think you just insulted these two posters. I mean, what critic would want to be so acceptable to MAD that they'd be considered fixtures? You just called their arguments pathetic, because only critics with pathetic arguments are considered acceptable at MAD.

They banned my sockpuppet but unsespended me -- not at all the outcome I expected when I registered a sockpuppet and sent an angry PM to Argos. I could still be banned though; don't consider your votes wasted. ;)

For whatever it's worth, TD, I want you to know that I would never piss on your rug.

Even if you did buy it at Walmart.

No, you did. You're the one who thinks critics are tolerated at MADB only if they're no good. I don't agree with you. I think the critics who manage to last at MADB are top-notch. They walk a fine line of putting their arguments out there while holding their tempers in check and watching their words. I also think many of those who were banned would agree with me. I think they know how it is to perform this balancing act.

You're sure welcome to believe it's not worth it, but I still think the MADB critics who've made a place for themselves there should be commended for their longevity.

I just noticed that Mormonthinker's recent thread was closed and I suspect from Skylla's comments that she was suspended. We'll see what happens......

Sethbag wrote:On the other hand, I didn't get invited to be in the "spam buster" group and some of the more polite critics did, so that shows I'm not exactly on their Christmas Card list either.

I wouldn't take it personally. Most TBMs didn't get invited either. I suspect they asked me for two reasons: 1) I often reported spam in the past, and 2) I have also reported a security issue they once had. I think they chose me because I have established myself as tending to report such problems.
