In light of the massacre in Virginia....
I would like to echo Runtu's message to treat everyone more civilly on these message boards. Let's try to keep some perspective for a while, alright?
My heart goes to the families of the victims. I'm not usually one for prayer...but I'll say one for the families. :(

This has been a hard day for everyone, but particularly for Virginians like me. Many of my kids' friends, my friends' children, go to Va Tech. My parents live even close to Va Tech than I do, and even more from their community go there. In my hometown, the latest word is none our children were victims, but our hearts are breaking for our neighbors. One of my closest friend's daughter was supposed to be in the building that was targeted, but was held up by a professor. Just a quirk of fate kept her alive today. It makes you put things in perspective, overall.
I'm wondering if any former fringers here remember Lane. He is a librarian at Va Tech. I'm expecting he's probably all right, since he wouldn't likely have been in the targeted buildings.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Yeah, its been a difficult day, full of sorrow and heartache.
We had several young people at our home today, calling, texting, emailing trying to contact friends and loved ones to make sure they were OK. Very, very tense for quite some time.
Such horror is almost incomprehensible.
Love and peace to all those who are heartbroken today.

Did the cops shoot the perp, like at Trolley Square, or did they take him safely into custody?

He's dead.
I haven't heard any updates since 1:30 pm (on NPR) but the stats I heard were:
33 dead (counting the shooter)
28 injured (17 in critical condition)
But as I said, I haven't heard anything new since earlier this afternoon.
