Studying Joseph is not, primarily, what foes on here. Most of the bandwidth used up here is used up in slandering and defaming him, regardless of the intellectual slovenliness that must be brought to bear on the subject.

You probably have better things to do, nomi.

Well, Coggins, you take up just as much bandwidth being, to use your words, "angry, mean, and dispeptic" to those who disagree with your stance on issues.

Welcome to the board, Nomi! :) Hopefully, we didn't scare you off. The bark is worse than the bite around here. Stay a while! ;)

You've strayed onto a mountain of knowledge, nomi. You might want to turn around and run very quickly back where you came from, because here, we take Joseph with a bushel of salt. We don't accept him at face value, since we've found out a few of the secrets he kept hidden from the members of his time. We tend to take him apart and study him, rather than revere him. If you can't abide that kind of inquiry and study, this forum might not be a good fit for you.

Someone peed in your Wheaties already this morning, Loran? You probably have better things to do than read the truth about Joseph. Maintaining your hero worship indeed does take up quite a bit of bandwidth.

Wow, Loran, your hiatus this time around was short indeed. Also, since you brought it up again, are you ever going to get around to clarifying just what it is, exactly, that you mean by "intellectually serious"?

Nevertheless, it's important to point out that she's just as welcome here as anyone else.

Did I say she wasn't? Sheesh, Shades. You know I would never imply someone wasn't welcome. I was trying to be helpful.

Forgive me if I read you wrong. It's just that I just took the last half of your last sentence to be a subtle de-invitation.

You have no idea what the "truth" about Joseph is, and until you come to a point in your life at which the concept of "truth" has any actual application and meaning for you beyond a continual massaging of reality to produce the endless self justification you desire from the universe, you never will.

For now, I'll just use you as as exhibit 'A' of what "intellectually serious" isn't.

Come now, Loran. That is a very lazy reply. Are we supposed to view you as being "intellectually serious"? I thought you were all about positives, and faith, and the Church, and yet you are supplying a negative example? I am beginning to wonder whether you actually know what being "intellectually serious" even means.... (You don't have a college degree, after all.)

Actually, I was thinking she might like Celestial a bit better. Had I wanted to warn her away from the board entirely, I wouldn't have used "forum"; I'd have used "board".

Prove it.

...he was the prophet of a living God...

Prove it.

...who saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ when he went into the sacred grove to pray.

Prove it.

Since then the Lord has called prophets again on earth...

Prove it.

...giving them revelations on how to direct His sons and daughters back to Him.

Prove it.

So, Gordon B Hinckley was merely testifying on the revelation received by the young Joseph when he saw the two personages.

Prove Joseph saw the two personages.

It so amazing how the prophecies told to Joseph Smith by God that, his name shall be known for both good and bad among all nations. reading some of the comments made by many of you, the prophecy has been fulfilled I guess.

The missionaries haven't made it into China (or the Vatican) yet....so the prophecy hasn't been fulfilled. And I doubt a majority of the people in the world knows who Joseph Smith is.
