I will go ahead and fill in the blanks for you. There are a number of things about which Mormons ought to be very proud (and things which I view as being largely good):

The meshing of doctrine with positive American ideals
---the settlement of the West
---generally good-natured principles and attitudes towards one's fellow human beings
---ambition
---the tendency towards book- and history-keeping (Prof. Hamblin's sig lines notwithstanding).
---the potential for so much good.

That settelement of the West one surprises me. I thought you would see that as bad since it required exterminating the Indians, or at the very least destroying their lifestyle and culture and replacing it with European way of life.

That is a pretty simplistic view of some incredibly complex processes, Ajax. The resourcefulness of the early Mormon settlers is something to be admired, imho. Especially given the fact that they were settling in some extremely inhospitable terrain.

I don't see how any of these things are good if the core doctrines of God, an afterlife with a judgment, and Christ's resurrection are not true. If these things aren't true than it's just an evil enterprise manipulating people for all the wrong reasons.

I'm afraid I don't share your black-and-white view of the world.

You know, Liz, I am actually quite surprised that you're not in there, too. I guess you are just generally nice, and they never really saw you as a big threat, or something like that. (And by threat, I mean that they don't worry that you will lure anyone over to "the Dark Side.")

I doubt anyone is saying you were a sockpuppet Lucretia, unless you were posting with several identities at once. I think Scratch was referring to solving one of the unknowns from Shades "missing" list when he said a piece of the puzzle has fallen into place.

What did he say to you in order to "lure you back"? I know for a fact that you used to view him with utter contempt. What changed?

This is not "a fact". I have never viewed Daniel Peterson with "contempt". When I attacked him on ZLMB I was darkened in mind, just like most apostates are. I repented, and I personally apologised to him. Go thou and do likewise.

What "changed" was my "attitude". I was wrong.

And FYI, I returned to the Church in 1995 only because of DCP's writings in the FARMS Review. That was the spark that ignited my return, because he dealt honestly with "anti-Mormon issues", issues I had been wrangling over for years and felt no Mormon apologist had addressed, and I consider him, still, to be the most influential living LDS apologist. That, Scratch, is why antis and exmos like yourself are so obsessed with him. You come across like froth-spewing apostates.

By the way, Joseph is still Number One in my books. His mind was and still is incomprehensible because of the magnitude of his thought, which even Mormons don't fully understand.

And still, I expect more vile bile from exmos. You are such bitter bunch.

As far as I know, she voluntarily departed from ZLMB. I don't think she ever participated at the old FAIR boards, now MA&D.

I know about Cowpie -- that was me. I thought that name would keep TBMs from jumping all over me, but they don't really mind getting their feet dirty, haha. I've used a lot of names on these boards over the years, but does that make me a sockpuppet? They kept accusing me of being in cahoots with someone, which was pretty nuts, I'm just a little old middle-aged white woman, and what you see is what you get. What did I do to get banished forever (and can't even look at that board anymore)? Well, nothing except being right all the time!! Anyway, it's nice to be remembered.

Cowpie, is that really you! I am shocked. I remember when you came on the FAIR board. You were rather hostile thinking that people would react unkindly to you. I remember your first posts very well because I was responding to them.

I know that you wanted to change your name on FAIR because the reaction to you was not what you expected. Gosh cowpie, it is great to talk with you again. Between you and me, you will always be my little cowpie! And I mean that with love. :=)

I fully admit to being simplistic in my thinking. That's what engineers do. They make things simpler. Historians on the other hand seem to always be trying to make things more complex.

I just don't get the whole "Atheist for Jesus" movement. Either He is who He said He was, or He was a fraud. Either He conquered death or He is just a deceiver and liar. I don't see it both ways. Either He performed the miracles, or He was just a trickster. I don't believe in a philosophy of good springing from evil.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

All we have is men who say he said he was who we think he was. We don't actually have Jesus's writings about anything. As far as anyone has ever found, Jesus never wrote anything, never left a record claiming anything. Can he be faulted for what people said about him?

Hope things are good in your world.

Mister Scratch wrote:Perhaps my favorite entry among the many excellent ones on Dr. Shades's blog is the one that lists the "Missing In Action" banned posters. It goes thusly:

The following is a list of MA&D Exiles who are "missing in action." In other words, I don't know their stories and I don't know how to contact them in order to get their stories. There is a lot of history behind many of these names, and most or all would merit great entries, but alas, until they resurface they'll just languish on this list:

* Boy Named Sue
* Froggie (beloved member of many a message board)
* Ref (banned possibly for challenging DCP over the missing--and apocryphal--2nd Watson Letter)
* Dear Mee
* John Corrill (frequent champion of downtrodden polygamous women of yore, earned no lack of ire from Juliann and her crew of harpies for this)
* Cowpie
* Brentley
* antishock8 (message board frequent flyer)
* Pezp
* Nepheye
* James Clifford Miller
* Seneca, a.k.a. "Zedius," "Cicero," "Euclid," and "Primus" (listed as being in "Purgatory," an appelation the MA&D mods reserve for only those they really, truly hate)
* TheObserver
* hondo
* Serious (an LDS defender caustic enough to get banned, widely rumored to be a sock-puppet of "Hammer." For some reason, Serious is also in "Purgatory")
* Theophilus
* nao crer, a.k.a. "Jim Huston" (also in "Purgatory")
* Elihu
* yukonyon
* Yhote
* Rock
* squallan (yet another member of "Purgatory")
* Joey
* voice of reason
* bat, a.k.a. "captive thinker" (has a long history on MA&D, being one of its very first critics. Has an equally long history of being banned but reregistering under different names almost immediately afterward)
* Athena
* bammer (runs the website http://www.bornagainmormon.com)
* DG#23
* jlp
* Chozah (the sockpuppet Will Schryver used to insult Dan Vogel while simultaneously, under "Will Schryver," inviting Dan to be interviewed for an amateur documentary on ex-Mormons)
* Baptized1962
* Free From Mo's

(Keep in mind, however, that like "Serious" and "Chozah," some of these names may merely be sock-puppets.)

If you see your name on this list, by all means, please send me a Private Message so I can give you a proper entry.

I felt that this was worth bringing to the main forum, in case anyone knows where these folks are.

I was also curious about the "Purgatory" appellation. I have a pretty good idea as to why *I* have been consigned to Purgatory, but does anyone know what these other four posters did to merit it? In particular, I'm am wondering about "Serious" and "squallan"....

I am Free from Mo's a.k.a. Cowpie's cheerleader.
I have not posted here for a while and just happen to see this thread so I thought I would respond.
When I wake up I will be hungry....but this feels so good right now aaahhhhhh........
