My point is... Not even Joseph Smith knew when the second coming was going to be. God blew him off. (ie "I was once praying to know... I was left thus not knowing...") God did the Same thing to the Apostles of old (acts 2:7)

The point here is... David Witmer said that... the temple would be built after the great tribulation. So how long was the great tribulation supposed to last?

Then you have to remember Christ and the cursing of the Fig tree. And then his subsequent prophecy of the Fig tree dropping its leafs and blooming again.

Israel was represented by that cursed fig tree. In AD70 that fig tree quit producing fruit. (Remeber Christ was looking for fruit on the fig tree when he cursed it because it had none) So in 1948... after the world wars that where Prophecied in the D&C took Place... once again the Fig tree is... set back up as a nation and begins to bloom again.

What I'm saying is David Whitmer thought the tribulation was a lot shorter than it really was.

I have to interject here about the fig tree.

While many people have speculated over the years that the fig tree is supposed tobeIsreal, that's not really what Jesus said, according to various translations:

Matthew 24:32-35 (NIV) (http://bibleresources.Bible.com/passage ... version=31)

32"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[d]is near, right at the door. 34I tell you the truth, this generation[e] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Matthew 24:32-35 (KJV)(http://bibleresources.Bible.com/passage ... version1=9)

32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Mark 13:28-31 (NIV) (http://bibleresources.Bible.com/passage ... version=31)

28"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. 30I tell you the truth, this generation[e] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Mark 13:28-31 (KJV) (http://bibleresources.Bible.com/passage ... version1=9)

28Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:

29So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

30Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

31Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

IMHO, I think that Jesus was using the blooming of the fig tree as a parable to let the disciples know how they could discern when the end of the age was. Put another way, "You guys can tell when summer's coming by the blooms that come out on this tree. In that same way that you can reason it's almost summer, when you see all this stuff happen (that was referred to earlier in the passage), you know the end of it all is close."

Just my .02.

The Backyard Professor has made a very good observation, reminds me of the old addage. "Those who know need no further explanation, those who don't no explanation is possible". That is so eternally true.

And so much elitist BS.
