I don't know...while the remark is on the nutjob end of the spectrum, I wonder if there isn't a contingent of contemporary Mormons who do actually think like this. The myth of persecuted innocence is certainly alive and well and there are many ways the 'we're like the jews' notion is encouraged and reinforced...

In a discussion about MMM on the MAD board, Hammer writes what is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard a believer say.

One more thing. I don't believe it was the church, the gospel, the leaders, who did this. It was those men who made choices on the spot.

Listening to how the LDS were persecuted for how many years before this, having things like Haun's mill in recent memory and Boggs extermination order put forth, (not knowing how it would feel to be a modern day Jew in Germany) what kind of state of mind were they in?

LOL, what a dumbass! A modern day Jew in Germany is just either a German citizen, a German national, or non-German citizen. I am of Jewish heritage, not to mention black, and I lived in Germany for two years. I STILL wanna go back, that was one of the most beautiful times of my life.

What's amusing about this is that, If I recall correctly, DCP commented on part 2 that there is a concern with Mormons being TOO well liked, TOO mainstream, not "other" enough.

Yet some kooks insist Mormons are one sneeze away from death camps.

I used to go to school each day with people throwing trash at me on the bus. I caught hell growing up, but I don't think that I could call myself a neo-holocaust victim.

Seriously, they should post on FAIR a warning about sniffing the contents of what's under your kitchen sink, the results are really devastating and sad to see.

On my Mission I had people throw rocks at me and pull guns on me and was beaten up once (while my companion ran away).

I know this was nothing compared to what my ancestors went through in Missouri (I've read their journals) and there are other groups who have experienced much more. While persecution can spike up at an incredible rate (i.e. Jews in Germany in the 30's) and I can see Mormons becoming pariahs in the space of a few years under the right circumstances I don't see it happening now.
