"Fundie"

Interesting that I'm a "fundie" when I haven't taken really any position on anything that would suggest I'm a fundamentalist. I guess the mere fact that I'm not alligned with you is enough to earn the label. That, of course, suggests it is nothing more than a dismissive pejoritive you use to call out your enemies.

I just thought it was funny that he came in asking for a fight and then basically said "it figures" when he got what he wanted. All this because we "misread" his own statement: "I gather than in these quarters, my thread title is likely to be met with rolled eyes and hyperventilating dismissals pouring from flushed faces."

What was misread was she said that I said that I expect my screen name is inclined to be met with dismissals when I was talking about the subject of my thread title. I already pointed this out plainly.

It might not have been an ad hominem attack, but it was, at the very least, quite a nasty Freudian Slip, since it betrays your preconceptions and prejudices. (I.e., that the posters on this board are probably mentally unsound.) Even if it was only an accident, I do think it would be in your best interest to apologize.

The reason I misread "mental" into it is that a mental health issue would help explain her behavior to me.
(bold emphasis added)

That was precisely my point: your misreading exposes your prejudices.

The comment makes less sense otherwise.

It makes perfect sense. Taking it easy on a person who is recovering from a recent hospitalization is quite easy to understand.

I still get it. We should "take it easy" on someone recovering form some serious health problem.

There you go.

However this was in reply to my bafflement at why I was so clearly misread and attacked.

You were attacked because you began your post with a very presumptuous comment about how others would perceive you.

This has been the explanation for this kind of behavior from posters in the past, so I guess I misread "mental" into it.

I'm not sure I quite understand you here, ALitD. Are you saying that you have ascribed mental health issues to your online opponents in the past?

By don't let that stop you from insisting that this means I harbor a secret prejudice that all posters on this board are mentally unstable by channeling the theories of a long discredited psychiatrist. Ironically, that you insist on imputing this motive into me might have more to say about your prejudices than anything.

I'm not "insisting" on anything, my friend. I am merely relying on your own words and posts. If you did not mean to "accidentally" make an insulting comment about the state of somebody's mental health, then it should be no small problem to apologize. What say ye?

What do you think, Scratch? Maybe Schryver?

Schryver is a pretty good guess, but is attacking atheism one of his hobby horses? For some reason, I want to say that it's DaddyMO.... Perhaps s/he will do us a favor and just tell us, rather than hiding behind a second layer of anonymity.

He's right, but it's worth noting that a godful, infinite life is ultimately meaningless, too.

You disappoint me.

And I'm hurt.

Just for that I'm going to give you the silent treatment for at least a week. That's right. You're on Schryver Suspension.

And for what it's worth, I'm not sure I even know what ALitD is talking about. There are far too many big words for my limited intellect to comprehend.

I don't mean to be off topic but I would like to ask a question....

If a woman lives a good life, loves her family, cares for those in need, tries to live with decency, civility, respect, kindness, compassion, love toward others, etc. etc. etc.

What difference does it make in terms of actual meaning if she does or does not believe her life has meaning outside this earthly life?

In other words, belief is not the determining factor as to ultimate meaning, (life is either meaningful or it is not meaningful) so who cares what one believes regarding how meaningful is her/his life? What difference does the belief in one's ultimate meaning, make?

Does that make sense?

You're so cute. Such a beautiful persecution complex. You are a fundie, in that you are so convinced that whatever path you're on, is so much better than atheism? What atheist shat in your cornflakes today?

I don't have enemies. I have gnats buzzing in the ear of my life. Welcome to the swarm.
