"No one understands Christ better than we do"
Taking these comments im going to run with them. We all know who stated this.
This is a referendum on the Mormon view of Christ.
Gaz, This statement is far from accurate. Why? Because the Mormon church believes that Jesus returned to America. They believe that Jesus married Mary Magdalen. They believe that Jesus gave Mormon temple rites to the apostles. They keep insinuating that the Mormon presidency talks to Jesus in the holy of holies.
All these things are not mainstream christian beliefs. They are the beliefs held by a christian-like church, not a christian church. Get over it. Mormonism has as much to do with christianity as Aum Shinrikyo has to do with Buddhism.

Holy Cow.
Theres so much to be said on the subject, I don't even know where to begin.
Lets focus on just one aspect. The Trinity.
According to typical evangelical thinking, God is uncomprehendable. The Father and Son and Holy Ghost can only be comprehended when compareing him to water. It can be ice, liquid or gas.
With no ability to comprehend Jesus Christ, we have no ability to comprehend our own divine nature.
Christ repeatedly refers to his Father (John 5:19; 6:38), implying a seperation but in the same breath absolute devotion. This is a true understanding of Christ, as a brother under the Father in Heaven, but also as the Father of Salvation to all of us, the Father having placed all authority upon Christ, who is the author of our salvation. (John 17; 3 Ne. 28:10-11)
My persoanl favorite example is found in D&C 93:1-20. I encourage everyone to read these verses, in them Christ testifies that he was given all things by the Father, and is God because he received of the Fathers fulness, and received all things grace for grace, meaning he grew into them. This is our example, the implication being that we can do the same if we follow his example.
To conclude on this one aspect of our understanding is Josephs teaching on the Godhead from the "Lectures on Faith":

To conclude on this one aspect of our understanding is Josephs teaching on the Godhead from the "Lectures on Faith":
There are two personages who constitute the great, matchless, governing, and supreme power over all things - by whom all things were created and made that are created and made, whether visible or invisible; whether in heaven, on earth, or in the earth, under the earth, or throughout the immensity of space. They are the Father and the Son: The Father being a personage of spirit, glory, and power, possessing all perfection and fullness. The Son, who was in the bosom of the Father, a personage of tabernacle, made or fashioned like unto man, or being in the form and likeness of man - or rather, man was formed after his likeness and in his image. He is also the express image and likeness of the personage of the Father, possessing all the fullness of the Father, or the same fullness with the Father, being begotten of him; and was ordained from before the foundation of the world to be a propitiation for the sins of all those who should believe on his name; and is called the Son because of the flesh - and descended in suffering below that which man can suffer, or in other words, suffered greater sufferings, and was exposed to more powerful contradictions than any man can be.
But notwithstanding all this, he kept the law of God and remained without sin; showing thereby that it is in the power of man to keep the law and remain also without sin. And also, that by him a righteous judgment might come upon all flesh, and that all who walk not in the law of God, may justly be condemned by the law, and have no excuse for their sins.
And he being the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, and having overcome, received a fullness of the glory of the Father - possessing the same mind with the Father; which Mind is the Holy Spirit, that bears record of the Father and the Son; and these three are one, or in other words, these three constitute the great, matchless, governing, and supreme power over all things; by whom all things were created and made, that were created and made: and these three constitute the Godhead and are one: the Father and the Son possessing the same mind, the same wisdom, glory, power, and fullness; filling all in all -the Son being filled with the fullness of the Mind, glory, and power; or in other words the Spirit, glory, and power of the Father - possessing all knowledge and glory, and the same kingdom; sitting at the right hand of power, in the express image and likeness of the Father - a Mediator for man - being filled with the fullness of the Mind of the Father, or in other words, the Spirit of the Father; which Spirit is shed forth upon all who believe on his name and keep his commandments.
And all those who keep his commandments shall grow up from grace to grace, and become heirs of the heavenly kingdom, and joint heirs with Jesus Christ; possessing the same mind, being transformed into the same image or likeness, even the express image of him who fills all in all; being filled with the fullness of his glory, and become one in him, even as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one.
We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. - Plato

gaz
Dude, I think the Dry heat is getting to you, as the trinity is not what i was discussing. LDS beliefs in the oneness of god and Christ and holy host are very different than Christianity.
The LDS religions Jesus is an amalgam of Mysticism and christian views of God.

And whose fault is it that these two were separated in the first place?
Yes gaz, everything is just a diluted form of Mormonism, right?
You and nibley would give each other handjobs if you could im sure.
Nibbler and you could go running around any archaeological dig site puling up rocks and saying definitively "yup, looks like we found another paralell to Mormonism"
This is part of the big problem with Mormonism, specifically Internet Mormonism.
Ancient Buddha posing? Corrupted Temple ceremony
Nordic burial rites? Evidence of temple clothing
Egyptian scroll: Mormon scripture
Maybee you, nibleys ghost and donut baron can have a good ole JO party.

OFFICIAL DECLARATION OF WAR
We, the undersigned do hereby declare war on the poster Mercury for the following public and pertinent offenses.
1. Mercury, who is so hell bent on dogging the LDS Church, recently defiled Mother's Day wishes to female posters of MDB in order to engage in even more hell bent dogging because he doesn't know when and where to shut up.
2. Mercury, who expects to engage TBM's in dialogue and debate on this board, expects TBM's to wade through his repeated references to masturbation. Re: handjobs, JO party's. And somehow thinks that his wisdom and light is worth their tolerating his locker room crap.
War to begin immediately for the duration of 24 hours. Do NOT mess with my Mother's Day!!! I will avenge you, Gaz!!!
