Another LDS Culture Question....

I think it might just be an older person thing. My aunt and uncle share an email because only one of them is big into computers....I suspect in 20 years or so this will die out as the Myspace Generation grows up used to having their own emails, personal webpages, and so forth.
I don't know how to factor in the LDS aspect. The idea of the man as the head of the household due to the priesthood (which some take seriously) may play into the issue....but that's on a case by case basis. I guess any household where one spouse is domineering over the other could lead to the issue of co-emailing as a control issue.

Why? I have no idea. I think its stupid. I have no secrets, and I don't understand this need for something private. Since when does a married couple need privacy from one another?
Oh my. That you could ask this question says a lot.
But I let her do what she wants. Its not a battle worth fighting, so I let her keep it, whatever.
How very big of you. Really. I mean it. Big of you.

The only women I know who share email accounts with their husbands are LDS. All of my other female friends have their own email accounts which are separate.
My husband was actually annoyed when I insisted on separate email accounts, but he didn't push the issue.
It's not that I am trying to hide anything from him, but I need my privacy space, and I think that he does, too. I receive emails from my girlfriends which involve personal issues that I know they would not want my husband reading about over my shoulder.
I just find it odd that this seems to be such a prevalent trend. Is it just my particular Ward, or have any of you noticed this?
Hey Liz,
I know of a few couples who have a joint email account. I haven't had any experience on this issue from the LDS pov, though I wouldn't be surprised if in many cases the situation you described were reality.

I would think because relationships thrive on jointness and also cultivating areas of separateness at the same time.

Wow. Do you also let her go to the bathroom without asking permission?
