Family Time vs. Church Time - From Mother's Day Thread

Hang in there Merc.

My wife was taking herself and all of our kids ever' livin' sundee to the chapel of LDS INC for a few years.

Today while she was sipping a frozen Margarita at Red Robin she looked at me and the kids and exclaimed, "WOW! This is the first Mother's Day I have not spent in church!"

"Yep!", several of the kids cheered.

I toasted her drink and said, "The first of many many real Mother's Day celebrations!"

Our oldest child fixed all of the kids breakfast while my wife slept in *wink*.. Later, we all went out for a fun lunch, came home and my wife opened gifts and read cards from us all.

Life is good.

How much of the truth does she have about the cult?

I've been inactive for a little over 2 years now. My wife unfortunately has the "stick fingers in ears and go lalalalala" response whenever I bring up Mormonism. Essentially there is nothing I can say that will change her mind and its been that way ever since I left.

Right now I don't see an end to her involvement wiht the cult. I'm just the confused hubby that "will eventually come back after he realises hes wrong", or "he just needs to stop believing what those so-called intellectuals all lie about".

I reserve my more biting sarcasm for here but generally I am upfront. She'll state something about an activity, lesson or requirement and i'll point out why I could not believe/justify me doing said activity, pointing out inconsistencies or even historical incongruities.

Those who choose to believe instead of question and then believe will always be satisfied if they blindly obey. How can you be dissatisfied with something if you have been told all your life that something is true no matter what the result?

Since it was "Mother's Day", I hope you didn't rag on her about how she chose to spend HER day--I hope you just brought your complaints here and tried to make it a special day for her. After all, you've got 364 other days to complain about not having her full attention and the amount of time she spends worshipping.

Sorry, but your complaint sounds rather selfish.

Why? My intent in my comments were centered around HER enjoying mothers day. SHE spends most of the day preparing, attending and recovering from the mindjob one gets @ LDS church services.

I don't know about Mercury's wife, but many, many, many TBM Mollies hate to go to church on Mother's Day because of tendency of talks to dwell on the ideal and unreachable perfection of motherhood, but they suffer through it out of religious obligation.

Okay, Gaz, et al., I'll be expecting you to post how wonderful your meetings were yesterday and how much your wives enjoyed it.

Both talks in sacrament were fawning praise of wives and how much they add to the comfort and security of the Home. No unattainable goals, really no goals at all, were discussed. Just appreciation.

Sunday school was about the parables of Christ.

Elders quarum was about forgiving others.
