Is This What Normal People Feel Like? Sunday without Church
Today was the most relaxed Sunday I have had in a long time. My daughter who is graduating from High School received an Advanced Theater Award at a school awards ceremony for the Seniors today.
Since the awards ceremony conflicted with Church, we both got subs for our callings (me, Primary Pianist, hubby, High Priest Instructor), and skipped out on the 3 hour circus of meetings which normally makes my Sunday feel like another work day.
We actually slept in a little bit. I played outside in the yard with our 3 year old. We enjoyed a very nice Awards Ceremony, and then got take-out from P.F. Chang's.
It's the first Sunday in ages where I haven't felt stressed to the max after a day of prepping the baby bag, getting myself and the baby dressed, listening to the teen-agers' latest drama about what to wear, feeling like I have been dragged through a war after having my 3 year old climb all over me during Sacrament Meeting before taking him to Nursery so I can play the piano for two hours. To be fair, I enjoy playing the piano for Primary, but the whole rigamaroll of the day is exhausting, and I always end up feeling like I only have a one day weekend.
I was musing over Some Schmo's signature, and the thought just came to me. Wow, is today's experience what most normal (non-LDS) people do on Sundays? No wonder they look forward to the weekends. LOL

Be careful Liz....having fun and enjoying the weekends is the first sign of apostacy toward normalcy.
PS: Glad you had fun today....yeah that's what it's like....extra sleep, less stress, another day of laying around the house relaxing.....dang it's great to be outta organized religion.

Wow, exact opposite to me. I haven't gone in several weeks for various reasons and I'd forgotten how interesting my Gospel Doctrine Teacher is and how funny and relevant Priesthood can be.
It felt like coming home again. At least ten people said they were glad to see me again and an old friend who just moved back in and I got to catch up on everyone. I'm so glad I went. On top of that God chose to write some key things into my mind.....and none of it was a command or a duty I'd been neglecting, he just wanted to share joy with me.
Admittedly though Liz, I don't have any kids to worry about. Well, I'm off to spend the rest of the day laying around the house relaxing and invite some friends over to watch a movie (just checked the popcorn supply, we're good).

They said that part of Adolf Hitler's appeal to the youth was that he put a hault to long worship hours on Sunday and reserved weekends for camping trips. If I'm not mistaken he wanted to get rid of Christian theology and go back to the old Germanic belief system, with Fri, Thor, and Valhalla.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I prefer Mussolinian popcorn myself.
Ajax, I don't remember ever reading anything suggesting that Hitler wanted to return to old Germanic religion. If you have a reference I would love to see it.

Honestly I just heard it watching the Discovery or History channel, but I did try to find a reference from Wikipedia. From what I read I would guess that subject is up to debate. Who really did know the mind of Adolf Hitler?
Did I mention that Hitler was also a strong proponent of gun control? He really like the idea. But I guess that fits since his party was officially called, "The national socialist party." Germany definitely had the most efficient socialist economy this world has ever seen.
In the early 20th century, the young Adolf Hitler was just one of many German-speaking people attracted by a new Germanic mythology that combined ancient legends and esoteric cosmologies with cutting-edge theories of genetic science. In the hands of the Nazis, the result was a new ideology that saw racial purity as the key to human destiny.
This was a belief-system of arcane rituals and potent symbols, with the ancient swastika appropriated for the Nazi cause. By the time of the Third Reich, Hitler and the Nazis had evolved an entirely new faith, complete with holy book, venerated relics and a priestly elite in the form of Himmler's SS. It was a religion based on obedience, power, and the cult of the leader, with Hitler himself conceived in Messianic terms.

The Nazi party was fascist, not socialist. It was grounded in capitalism. Among its first victims were communists like Rosa Luxemburg (killed by the freikorps, "forerunners" of the National Socialist Party). I think you can even find discussions of this in Wikipedia.
I think the Wikipedia entry you quote from is using "religion" in a less than literal sense, since at no time was Nazism considered an actual religion.
I would guess plenty of people. He wrote a lot, gave many speeches, had many colleagues. Historians study this. It's not a big mystery.Who really did know the mind of Adolf Hitler?

My Sunday wasn't bad. I went to sacrament meeting, where my son was presented as the newest church member (I had definite mixed feelings about that), and then I came home and started up my smoker and smoked a pork loin. It turned out perfectly. Then I've been lazing around all afternoon. Welcome, welcome, Sabbath morning! Now we rest from every care.
