There may have been "proto dogs" and creatures prior to this that had no canine morphology or physiology whatever, but none of them were dogs, as we know them. Dogs, as a stable species, have always been as they are, in their various varieties. The wolves from which they descended were always as they were, except of course, when they weren't, in which case, "they" weren't wolves at all but creatures that would become them in time.

Wow... And this coming from the guy who was, in another thread, decrying the rhetorical two-steps so common to PoMo and deconstruction! Let's all say this again, slowly:

"The wolves from which they descended were always as they were, except of course, when they weren't, in which case, "they" weren't wolves at all but creatures that would become them in time. "

ROFL!! Silentkid is right: you are better off sticking to your pseudo-philosophical political blather, with its judicious sprinklings of pop-conservative "history". Bravo, Gomer, you've done it again! You are so myopic about your own limitations that I may have to start calling you "Mr. Magoo" instead!

And yet again, case closed.

So right. What's the score again? Isn't it something like, "Mr. Scratch=12, Loran=0"? Well, maybe we ought to give you a point---a sympathy point---for your AGW postings. Those seem halfway credible, at least.

I was taught that God used materials from other worlds to make ours, and that's how we happen to have stuff over 6,000 years old.

That's nice. Its also irrelevant. Its not official Church doctrine and never was.

It was taught. It is relevant.

Nobody can pin down Mormon doctrine, but we do know what we were taught.

Which point of doctrine are you having trouble getting clarified?

Well, I heard my mother telling me this, but I'd like chapter and verse from you or Scratch to support the statement above.

Sounds to me as if Nelson is taking the temple film a bit too literally. ;)

Since you know as little about LDS doctrine and philosophy as you do, it sounds to me as if your fudging the entire argument. Nelson's statement is quite literally true. Dogs have always been dogs. [snip]

Oh! So it's your position that Nelson was playing with words and being intentionally misleading.

Below is a link to an interview by the "Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life" of Elders Nelson and Wickman about the LDS Church's role in American society. I especially liked Elder Nelson's words of obvious disdain for evolution. Enjoy!

Quite a large number of highly educated and respectable intellectuals have words of disdain for Darwinian Fundamentalism. After all, not all of the evolutionary explanation for the origins and development of life on earth are correct. So, no problem there.

Really? Who?

I'd say that Dawkins and Gould could kick the s*** out of anyone you can magically "think" of via google
And crawling on the planet's face
Some insects called the human race
Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

You have now been consigned, with Fort, Coffee, and a few of the other teenagers here, to my pernament mental trash folder.
